I am going to be ordering an 8400 soon, so lets hope it works. shooting for just 4GHZ on low volts. As soon as I can get one for around 200-210, I will order my chip. Look for some results next week.

No chance to boot with wolfdale (E8400 in this case) without a new bios. Boot up hangs with C1 on the onboard display. Let's hope Abit will take care of this or it's gonna be my last Abit mobo. Some P965 mobos already have beta bioses with 45 nm cpus support.

C1? Have you tried booting with only 1 stick of ram, verifying the proper voltage? This is bad news for many of us if so.

No, I have not and I couldn't verify anything because I couldn't even got into bios, my lcd remained blank.

I'm using the latest bios dated 08/16/2007.

I've heard from someone who have received reply from abit support about this issue. They said they are working on this but there will be no support for 45nm cpus in the nearest future

Thats pretty weak on abit's part... should have kept my ASUS.

Like someone said, probably my last ABIT board... they make great stuff the support is just sooooo crappy.

What are the people getting on their PWM temps on this board. I did the heatsink mod which uses #4-40 UNC-2B screws and nuts to hold down the sinks on the SB, NB, and PWM and I'm getting around 60c - 65c PWM temps. I don't have a benchmark so I just don't know what they should be with this mod. Any help?

Old thread, but figured I'd add my current results with a 45nm chip in case anyone is interested

I flashed to the newest beta bios and installed an e3110 last week. I'm still testing, but so far I've gotten it up to 4.1ghz (9x455.) I'm currently testing to see if the board will do 467fsb (6x467,) and if I can get that stable I will shoot for 9x467.

As of this morning, 467fsb was 12 hours Orthos blend stable with 1.55v MCH and 1.2v ICH. 455fsb was stable with only 1.4v MCH, so I have a feeling that my board is running out of steam when it comes to fsb.

I'll post up screenshots once I finalize my 24/7 overclock

Looking good. I am going to add one of these bad boys to my rig in about 3-4 weeks along with a 4870x2 vid card a few weeks after that. That will keep this system humming along nicely for some time to come.

    Results:

4.1ghz is Orthos small ftt stable so far with 1.325 vcore set in the bios, along with 1.4v cpu VTT, 1.45v MCH, and 1.15v ICH. I can get it to be ~4hr Orthos blend stable at 4.2ghz with 1.345 vcore and 1.55v MCH, however the temps on my PWM's climb into the mid-80's. I did not bother pushing voltages further to get 4.2ghz stable because of this heat...I have two 60mm Vantec Stealth fans on the way (one will go on the NB heatsink, the other on the PWM heatsink) to try to lower these temps. Then I will see if I can get 4.2ghz 24 hours stable.

In the meantime, I am going to finish off my testing with a 24 hour blend test, and then some extended test loops of 3Dmark06.

zodden, my plans are pretty much the same as yours- I'll probably be swapping my 8800gtx for a 4870x2 as well, so long as they are as good as everyone thinks they're going to be. That should hold me over until Nehalem comes down in price a bit

    hello all,

i'm planning on moving to a new hard drive setup but am a bit afraid with all the troubles i've been reading about
this is what I want to do:
1 raptor disk as the OS-install disk
2 250 sata drives in RAID 0 for speed
1 plane vanilla dvd-writer on regular ATA

with all the jmicron stuff i've been reading about (wrt optical disks and what not) I am not sure this will work. Anything I should look out for ? I also want to activate ACHI (as it is not the case on my current install). What do I need to attach to what in order for this to work properly ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated ! (i'll be moving to the latest beta bios I could find , the BZ7)

another question though, will this board be able to fully benefit from a hd 4780x2 ? Or will the quadgt stop it from reaching its full potential? I have an 8800 gtx now and am looking to upgrade it...

ofcourse it will .. it has pci-express x16 (like every motherboard nowadays), so yes, it will fully benifit ..

thanks for the quick reply but even though it is only pcie 1.0a and not 2.0 ? Because a normal CF setup on this board would be out of the question since it will be 1x 16x and 1x 4x ...

Does anybody offhand know if an OCZ Vendetta 2 will fit on this board? I have read it having problems fitting other boards, but the spacing on this board was layed out quite well from my experience so I would expect it to fit but have not read about anybodies actual experience with that cooler on this motherboard. Below is a review of that cooler for those who may not have heard of it.

    4.2 GHZ:

I'm not 100% sure if I will stay here or back down to 4.1ghz for 24/7 usage though. 4.1ghz is stable with 1.325v (bios) and 1.45v MCH. 4.2ghz requires 1.355v (bios), and 1.55v MCH. The idle volts for 4.2ghz fluctuate around 1.32-1.34v, with the occasional spike up to 1.36v according to uGuru, load is right around 1.3-1.32v. So technically, the voltage should be ok. My VID is pretty high, so I'm only at a 15% increase in voltage over stock, which isn't bad. The max core temp of 70c in one of my screenshots looks a little too high, but that was in the middle of the day when my 2nd floor was probably around 95F (the central air doesn't reach up to the 2nd floor too well, but I have a secondary air conditioner that I run at all times when I'm actually up there. I usually keep it in the mid-high 70's.) It isn't that bad if you take that into consideration...

Honestly the 1.55v MCH is a little more concerning than the vcore, but considering that I've seen a lot of people run this board up over 1.6v, then perhaps I shouldn't be too concerned.

Enough of the worrytalk though, I got almost 1000 additional 3dmarks over my old 3.3ghz e6600 overclock, and all of my Sandra scores skyrocketed So all in all, I'm a happy camper!

I haven't seen anyone try a 45nm quad on this board yet. I seem to remember some people struggling with 65nm quads on this board though (at least early on,) so I don't know how well it would handle a 45nm quad, even if it did support it.

I'd like to see someone try though!

Just ignore the cpu-z shot, it has never shown correct voltage on this board. The real setting is 1.355v in the bios, ~1.34v real idle, ~1.31 real load.

I don't think it does. I think it only works on the E8xxx series and their Xeon counterparts. At least I have not read anywhere people playing around with a Quad 45nm.

chaos_being: 4.2! Thats very nice. I have always thought this board is one of the best P965 boards released. With that CPU and a good vid card you maintain a high end setup for the foreseeable future.

I was wrong in my last post

    Core 2 Quad Q9550 1333 All 17 Ready
    Core 2 Quad Q9450 1333 All 17 Ready
    Core 2 Quad Q9300 1333 All 17 Ready

So the official 17 bios which you can get below adds supports for the 45nm Quads

    http://www.abit.com.tw/page/no/mothe...pPRODINFO=BIOS

Link to the full support list:

    http://www.abit.com.tw/cpu-support-l...ab9-quadgt.htm

Thats good news, though myself on a gaming maching an OC'd 8400 is all I really need for the foreseeable future.
