Driver issue. 3870s and 3850s work fine; with generic Microsoft driver it works fine; when ATI driver is loaded image disappears. Monitor is detected in CCC and I can extend a desktop onto it... only it shows black. Several people have the same issue with different monitors. One of them was told by an ATI technician that it's a driver issue with EDID on some monitors, and that fixed drivers are on the way.

Hey when does the lowered idle clocks fix come? I'd like to see my 4850 idling around 50-100mhz, not 500mhz

I swore there was one that let you run 160 mhz core and 500 mhz or so memory.

there's an MSI bios that allows you to do that, but I'm hoping a simple Catalyst update can fix everything, if not I'll just download the msi bios, mod it with RBE to get me above 700mhz 3d and then later on get some better cooling and push for 900mhz with some hard modding

Any one got an idea when the real 8.7 comes out? This is my first ati card so I don't know how long they take to update drivers

There's a new Catalyst release every month, hence the release version (8.7 for july, 8.8 for august and so on).

A while back ATI tended to release them on the 2nd week of the month but now they're coming very late.

Me too. My 9800gtx died last week and my old faithful 1900xt will be in its place until 4870X2 is released. Playing Mass Effect w/o Depth of Field really sucks...

im having some odd DX issues with Medieval II but otherwise they seem alright, i think these drivers are really holding the 4870/50's behind though. Im sure in a week when 8.7 final is out they will make most things right and the next few releases over the coming months

I also have some weird system hang today since installing radeon. Although it's been a full year since i installed vista LOL!with multiple beta SP1's and tons of hotfixes, overall performance is good..but a clean install is calling, maybe this weekend after i back ups
