    Custom Zalman VF-950 + Radeon HD4850

HD4850 in Zalman VF-950, best couple there is!

Some idle and full load screenshots. I think the numbers are easy to read

Some more photos of the mod on my labs desk and in my case running (fans are still because of High ISO mode)

Too bad memory doesn't want to go any higher even with this mod. It stops at 1150MHz (2300MHz DDR).
Anyway, GPU is 20°C cooler on full load, and in idle it's 40°C cooler than with stock cooling

I knew that my trusty Zalman VF-900 (i call it VF-950 now because of the fan upgrade) is not retired yet. Ppl even said to me it won't be able to keep up with the HD4850 temperatures. I call all that BS. It's more than capable of cooling the RV770! And at very high clocks not some stock crap...

You strapped an 80mm fan on top of a VF-900 and called it a VF-950?!
    lol

Well if it works, great for you.

This just shows how "weak" the HF4850's standard cooler is.

funny. anything that works is okay with me, but i have CrossFire and don't have enough room on my motherboard for 3-slot video cards. luckily the default cooler on the 4870 works very well if you make the fan spin faster than default.

Well, why not call it VF-950. It's an upgraded version after all. :P

Well the thing is pretty much completelly silent in idle and at full load. The fan is controled by system fan management. Theoretically when CPU runs hot, it will speed up both, CPU and GFX card fan. But in reality, they don't change speed much, at least not so much that i'd be able to notice the difference. CPU fan is silent anyway, this Akasa fan (originally from AK-922) was relocated to the GFX cooler because it doesn't produce any noise when turned upside down. In vertical position it's producing some kind of grinding noise, i've checked out the inside of the fan, cleaned it and applied clean machine oil but nothing really changed. Must be a fan design flaw...

Silence is golden. Nice.. nice ..
and you just made me realize that SpeedFan doesn't change fan speed on LOAD .

It is possible to control this 8cm/molex fan through the GFX fan header ( but not directly , unless specs match) by an appropriate Relay

You'll need a PWM fan or 4pin for manual/auto control

the pin input is the same for regular fans (ground - voltage - rpm wire - pwm wire)
