This is indeed a very promising mobo. Now I'm torn between this and the Rampage formula. And I can't decide which one to get.

Does any of you have the two mobo's and direct performance comparison? I tried googling this vs the Rampage formula. Can't find one

I'm planning of running it with a Q9450. Thanks!

I've never owned the Rampage but I did have the Maximus Formula which I then converted to the Rampage Formula. The only reason I can see sticking with the x38/x48 chipsets is if you need dual x16 lanes for crossfire or if you wanted to run a RAID controller in one 16x lane and still wanted to keep the other 16x lane for graphics. Honestly I can't see x8/x8 being much of a bottle neck unless you live to run 3D benchmarks all the time. When the 4870 comes out I'll more than likely CF them on this board unless, of course, the 4870x2 proves to be a superior card.
My experience has been that the P45 clocks the FSB higher for quadcores with much less effort and heat than the x38/x48 chipset. I could never run 450MHz on my QX6850 using my old Maximus board and 4x1GB of memory. The highest I ever acheived was 425-430MHz and that was with 1.60V+ on the north bridge but here I am doing 450MHz with 4x1GB @ 1125MHz with only 1.28V on the NB.

Tests seem to show that the 8x/8x does affect gaming performance , the higher the resolutions the worse the hit . And thats only with 2x 4850's .

    Any link Aussie-Revhead ? was it on PCI-E 2.0 or earlier ?
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

    Here's a comparison between P45 and X48 from tweaktown.

So it appears I stand corrected. All I can hope for is that the 4870x2's live up to their hype.

haha I flicked through so many articles now (as you do when your researching stuff) but Im pretty sure its the one linked above.

    I cant decide whether to get a pair of 260's with my 790 or a pair of 4870's with a p5q or x48 ....

That seems like a big hit at high resolutions, ofcourse one of the reasons you would go crossfire to play at high resolutions... will wait on a 2nd opinion...as it seems PCI2.0 doesn't seem to do anything at all here...

hey guys, i'm thinking about getting this motherboard. just wondering if anyone knows how big the SSD drive on the mobo is. and is it possible to put our own linux distro's on it instead of being forced to use the asus OS.

    thanks

How to enable AHCI on marvell eSATA 88SE6121

    Hi,

I'm search how to enable AHCI on marvell eSATA 88SE6121 in the Bios of my P5Q Deluxe.
    eSATA support HotPlug in AHCI,
Under windows if I turn on my external HDD, it does not appear on the desktop.
It is visible that if I reboot with the HDD External lights (XP or Vista).
Previously I had a P5K Premium, with an option in the BIOS to activate the controller (a JMicron) to AHCI.
But on P5Q Deluxe I did not find any option !

The Marvell 88SE6121 does not support AHCI ???

    Thanks for your answers.

time to upgrade to the P5Q3 oh well DDR3 is required for the next CPU class so atleast if I have to buy ram might as well not get something thats obsolete in 6 months.

I'm planning of running it with a Q9450. Thanks!
I just sold a Rampage a bought this board!

And men what a big relief

The Rampage is a good looking board, with 2x16 PCI-e, and with better bandwidth than the P5Q's but that's all there is to it.

My Rampage was a "volt eater"

    To get my Q6600 G0 stable @ 3600MHz (8x450) I had to put the vNB=1,40v and vFSB=1,36v !!!

Now with this P5Q Dlx I've got all voltages to it's minimum values except vCore and vMem.

Also had to use DRAM SKEW = Advanced 300 to stabilize my Corsairs @ 1066MHz, 5-5-5-15. Now I don't use any DRAM SKEWS and it is @ 1128MHz !

Also ICH10R gave more horse power to my raid0.

Not to tell, as someone just said here, with the money diference between P5Q Dlx and the Rampage, you almost by 2x2GB of ram.

OT: But does anyone know if P45 is the last 775 chipset before nehalem? or will there be another highend X based chipset?

X58 is going to be for Nehalem.

I can't see there being any more 775 chipsets before Nehalem.

    Probably.

I'm not sure if Intel will continue to support 775 with a new chipset after they get Nehalem to market. Tho I doubt it.
