I'll put a few sinks on those for good measure...Sounds like the main sink for the mosfets does plenty good enough too...

    Thanks!!

You convinced me water cooling the 8 phase PWM wasn't really necessary, and I honestly wasn't looking forward to fighting even more tubing in my new build.

But...I couldn't leave well enough alone either...

I had a couple of old Thermalright HR-05 SLI's lying around from my 680i chipsets before I went to water with them, so I started pondering how I could convert one into my own home brew transpiper.

For starters the base for the HR-05 is too wide. At a minimum you would need to sand off or cut off the extra width and then drill and tap a hole in center of the HR-05 and drill/tap a 4-40 hole in the DFI PWM sink.

    I did just that

and since I had the mill I went a step further and cut down a flush slot in the DFI sink so I'd get full contact on the base.

Turned out pretty good I think, now I'll have a little more cooling and no more tubing clutter from yet another waterblock. I also have an ultra low speed 80mm fan I mounted to the HR-05....I think this will work.

Here is the slot I milled out in the stock heat sink to provide full contact.

And here is a comparison with the stock HR-05 SLI base, I had to cut off about 2.5mm on each side.

You could do this mod yourself if you happen to already have one of these sinks lying around. You could just use a belt sander to take the sides down, then drill and tap the hole in the center, there's probably plenty of contact bridging over the heatpipe slot for the stock transpiper.

Cool little project, I'm already enjoying the board that much more now that I have something custom on there..

The stock transpiper just has a single heatpipe...this has two..

nice mod there, although i don't think you'd need the extra small fan, because ain't it usually we have a 120mm fan above the io panel blowing air out...

    Thanks!
Yeah, I might take it off...I havn't mounted the board yet, so I wasn't sure how much coverage it would get from the exhaust fan. That's another good bonus with it though..

martin. You really dont want to bling that board up too much.

Also the mosfet, you dont want to watercool the things that sits in the middle of those mosfets + That funky long looking chip. The one in the middle of the mosfet and cpu socket. CPL-4-50

I heard those are heat sinks ment to take stress from the mosfets. If you watercool it, you'll be introducing a massive amount of heat which doesnt need to be introduced. Read up on the Group buy for Mips block started by Bjord.

Martin, also i learned a big lesson in watercooling the SB.
    1. It makes things more complicated to loop expecially if your running dual cards.
    2. It doesnt give jack in stability or overclocking performance.
    3. Im moving to an Areca soon, so the SB becomes even more usless.

Martin get an enzo sb sink and end it there.

Dont try to bling the board out martin. This is a high end tank board. The more you try to make it look like a little baby with a ribbon and bib, the more problems you'll run into on the higher end stuff.

And also @ Sigh on your HR-05 mod.
Theres a reason why they got rid of the transplanter. Martin get rid of it, and just drop a 70mm yate.

Oh man, im thinkn i should of recomended you an ASUS after seeing all this. I honestly think, ASUS is better ment to rice out, and DFI's are ment to stress out.

Martin!! THIS IS NOT A CIVIC THAT YOU FIX UP AND NOS!!!!
YOUR NOT ASIAN LIKE I AM!! STOP TRYING TO RICE OUT THAT BOARD!!

Hehe...I've got time to burn while I finish my radiator testing and can't leave well enough alone.

I'm also getting stubborn in my old age and have to learn the hard way..lol!

I'm just going to go with the DD MCP chipsets, I already have them on my 680i, I just need to modify the tops to make them work how I want, it'll be easy..

Can you help me out with the dye color? I heard red cools the best

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

careful martin, your gona get sig'd by someone on that. And watch all of XS make red loops.

About the NB block, use either or. Its your call, i like the DD because koolance compressions fit VERY SEXY on them. The side rings matches the compression edges.

The transplanter. GOD if you dont get rid of that, i'll throw a waterblock at ya. Get rid of it martin, you should know better. What your doing is simular to the noobs who put a waterblock ontop of a NB Sink on stock boards and go OOHH!! WATCH MY L33T chipset cooling.

I do like the MCP chipset blocks, it will be really easy to make custom tops for too, I have plenty of 1/2" lexan just waiting for a few barb holes and hold down holes...done. That'll give me a chance to rotate them how I want and the durability of lexan on top of it..

you know what tho, i may send you a set of koolance quick connects to keep.

You can test them, and then use it as a drain line on a T. Should make your tests easier. Just plug on the female when you need to drain, and woosh, it should all come out as soon as you tap'd your line.

I know there hella restrictive, however not too restrictive for a Drain line.

Took me a second too, soo many colors on the board it's hard to see the contrast.
I felt like I was looking at one of my sons "Find the three moneys in the collage" book. I was about to have him find it for me...he's got much better eyes...lol!

you guys are taking it a bit far, the NB on this board really doesnt need all that much cooling power, i have mcw-30 with 30-32C temps on my NB @ 1.62v no need for this cpu stuff

Oops sorry, I'm bad with typing...I'm much better with numbers than letters...lol

I have plenty of options on my new build, but I'm still going for simplicity. I may even go back to two loops just to keep the tubing forest down to a minimum.

There's not much interest in GPU blocks these days anyhow, so I may as well run one 480GTX for the CPU and one for everything else.

I'm also going to go with the Danger Den MCP chipset bases and just fabricate my own lexan tops..
