You can see the obvious difference between realtemp/coretemp because of the tjmax rating. Either way that matters little to me. It runs fully loaded 24/7 and uptime is outstanding. Cooler is a xigmatek hdt-s1283 with 2 fans push/pull.

I've had an Abit IP35 Pro for a while now, with the following spec:

    Q6600 G0
    2GB OCuk PC2 8500
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...0Channel%20Kit)
    ATI HD2900XT
    Tagan 480W

The CPU is great and will sit at 3.6Ghz with no problems (400x9) but whenever I try and get some FSB/RAM bandwidth out of it I have a shedload of problems...

First of all, I can't get over 400-425 FSB, even with a 1:1 divider, 6x multi, and upped volts...
Secondly, I can't get th memory up to stock speed whatever I do... (using a 2x divider and 266 FSB etc)
Lastly, I have just bought another 2GB of the same RAM, and I can't for the life of me get the PC to run with all 4 sticks in... (this is at the default 800Mhz)

I've tried all I can think of to resolve this... including raising VTT, MCH, lowering GTLRef, upping VCore... etc etc but to no avail.
The settings I've been using/tweaking are:

    MCH: 1.20V - 1.50V
    VTT: 1.20V - 1.29V
ICH: 1.05V - slightly above, cant remember numbers
ICHIO: 1.5V - slightly above, cant remember numbers
    GTLRef: 61% - 67%
    DDR Ref voltage: 0% - +2%
    DDR Voltage: 1.80V - 2.30V

    RAM is running 5-5-5-18 2T

So what do you guys think the issue could be? Do I just have a really sh***y board? Or is it the RAM? Has anyone else used this RAM?

IMO Your 480watt power sounds very weak to this system! you need atleast a 680 watt power for that system.

really? sounds unlikely to me... the PSU doesn't seem to be struggling at all... it's not hot, and the rails aren't fluctuating... and being a tagan it's *actually* 480W, and not "close enough to 480W to call it that". Also i've been running this system for months at higher CPU speed with no problems

When I had my CD2 e6320 on this mobo, I was not able to posh it any more than 420FSB (with any kind of multi combo and ram settings) I was thinking of bad mobo, but I am able to do FSB480 with my new Q6600. I have temp problems though. it seems that cooler master hyper 212 is not doing its job very well or maybe I am not installed it in a best possible way.

I suggest u to test ur system with another pair of rams or another cpu.

Thanks m8. great OC with your rig, GZ!

can anyone tell me what is the maximum core temp allowed for q6600?

When Im testing 34000@1.38v, the OCCT will stop testing after ~3 minutes due to high core temps. please see the attached file :

mmm, i'm tempted to say it's not the CPU, just because it won't boot with a higher RAM divider... but I've ordered some more RAM anyway so i hope trying it with that will shed some more light on the matter

I think the upper limit of cpu temp on a q6600 is really only reached when you feel uncomfortable with it or it won't run stable. OCCT will definately generate lots of heat and stress the system very well. A couple things to consider, case airflow and placement. I like that sunbeam case and I have a similar one but even the best case designs and fan setups aren't going to help if the case is jammed in a cubby, wedged in a corner, or near a heat source. The ambient temp of course is always very relevant with air cooling. The one test I looked at with that coolermaster sink was at anandtech. The results using the stock fan were very middle of the road and that looks like what you're witnessing first hand. Once they strapped on dual fans the difference was impressive.

    Thank you m8,
my case is not placed in the best possible location in my room, also ambient temp is rather high. btw I am using 2 fans with my 212. I'm geting close to idea of bad installation of the fan so I will definitly reinstall it with a better thermal compound soon and report back.

    thanks.

Could someone tell me what the best bios is for memory clocking/stability regardless of CPU? I keep reading 14 and 16betas are good

65nm CPU's should use v.14 or some of the v.16beta versions. IIRC v.16beta03 was the good one for 65nm's, but one of the newer ones may work; sorry my memory fails me at the current juncture. v.16final & v.17beta are tailor made for 45nm CPUs and will give you funky temp readings on your E6750.

Simple question...does this board play nicely with 4 sticks? I need more RAM and need to know if I should get 2 more sticks of Ballistix or replace them with 2x2GB.

I can't search with the number "4" or I would have already.

It will work with four sticks just fine. You will definitely need some additional MCH voltage though. Depends on the sticks and your overclock as to how much. Of course, use the least you can to maintain stability. I've seen it take anywhere from 1.33v (two .04v steps from default 1.25v) to 1.41v with marginal sticks. Since you're open to getting 2x2G, it will probably clock better with two sticks than four. Additionally, some with four sticks find that they need an additional .05-.10Vdimm, though that's rare. Rarer still is the necessity to loosen timings if neither of those things work. Neither of these last two steps are needed in the vast majority of cases.

FWIW, if you are going that route, I'd stay away from Ballistix. At the abit forums we've seen quite a few sets get RMA'ed/returned/sold. It seems we may have the reason why as well. See this thread...more specifically this post, which is a copy/paste of a conversation with a Crucial rep. Long story short - they quit producing 16-chip 1Gb modules in favor of the cheaper (and less reliable) 8-chip sticks. No reason aside from it being cheaper. Quality apparently doesn't enter the picture as was essentially verified by the rep. Bear in mind, this is just my personal opinion and is based on that thread among other anecdotal evidence and I'm not speaking for abit or the abit forums (heh, nor do I have any authority to do so!). Again, just FWIW.

Thanks for the information. I have run 4 sticks in the past (4x512MB on DFI NF4) so I am aware of the necessary voltage increase and slower timings needed.

So if I bought Ballistix now, I wouldn't be getting the same thing I'm running now...great. I love these sticks though...500mhz 5-5-5 @ 2.0v and never had a problem for almost a year now and I use them heavily. I do have another 2 sticks that were bought at the same time, in another system. I could take those out to have 4 matching sticks, then put new memory in that one instead.

What's the better route? Pull the other 2 sticks or buy a new 2x2GB set and sell my 2x1GB set?

I need to find what the best 2x2GB setup would be then...too bad you pay more for the density.

ive tried both my e8400s again for 500x9 @ bios 16

and both cpus dont even boot into windows no matter the volts/GTL

prior to bios 16.. both were running 500x9 stable

abit - whys every bios they release so different @ oc? same goes for intel/foxconn mobos..

No you won't at least not from Newegg
What do want for you're 2X1's? Are they the 16 chip Double density that we've grown to love? Ordered some from newegg 2 wks. ago and got the Crap ones. They're on their way back. I used Ballistix in so many builds for other people and they are all happy campers and now that I want to do a build for myself I can't get them any more.

Yeah they are the good ones, bought last summer. I may pull my other 2 sticks from the other computer and go 4x1. I'll buy another set of something to replace them.

    I hope I can still do 500 5-5-5 with 4x1GB.

Sorry if this has been covered already....I read through about 100 pages and didn't see anything so...

Ok just got a e8400 and IP35pro tonight and was having the weird temp probs many were having with the bios 14. Flashed to 16 and now CPUZ is showing half clock speed and the same vcore that it was showing under the old bios (i bumped it by .2).

Is bios 16 more stable for wolfdales than 14? Any bios setting suggestions. I am having trouble getting it stable above 3.5. Should I leave the options in "CPU Feature" alone or turn them off?

Thanks for any help you can give.
