at those speeds it's faster than the single platter 320's from samsung and WD or i'm daydreaming?

Segate is fast as usual with high transfer rates, but high access times compared to WD,samsung..Those access times (in the review above) are very much higher than single platter 7200.10..

Short-stroking will help and the price is right. If the HD322HJ doesn't arrive soon I'll jump on 2 of these for a server build.
Less is more.
These are the only single platter 320Gb drives available in the UK at the moment. The Samsung and the WD seem to be AWOL.

Those transfer rates are equivalent to a VelociRaptor, that's damn impressive.
Reliability seems to be a huge concern though...hopefully Seagate can rectify that issue quickly.

How do they compare to dual ES.2 250GB drives in RAID 0 (also assuming two in RAID 0)?
Asus Rampage II Gene | Core i7 920 | 6*2GB Mushkin 998729 | BFG GTX280 OCX | Auzentech X-Fi Forte | Corsair VX550

I have the Seagate ES.2 250gb in Raid 0 and damn they are fast!
SuperMicro X8SAX
Xeon 5620
12GB - Crucial ECC DDR3 1333
Intel 520 180GB Cherryville
Areca 1231ML ~ 2~ 250GB Seagate ES.2 ~ Raid 0 ~ 4~ Hitachi 5K3000 2TB ~ Raid 6 ~
Yeah, so do I. I really like them! Another plus is that they have a significantly higher MTBF than the 7200.xx series, decreasing the risk of failure in a RAID array.

I've got one of these drives as a game drive. I think the best thing about it is that it is low profile. Performance seems ok.

Bet this will be real nice on Intel ACH9/10 Matrix raid!
Why is the random access time high on these drives and will it make much difference?
