Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R (P45 Express) first impression

    Test system

    E8400, 2GB Corsairs, GeForce 7100 GS

This FSB was pretty stable at OCCT and Prime95 too, testing with 45nm + 65nm Quads today ...

Here is Preview of three boards Gigabyte with look at BIOS too ... BTW - BIOS is great with perfect options for Ocers ... (GTL, skew, strap, tRD tunning ...)

Was that the max FSB reachable OBR ? will try to understand one word from ya webbie mate Think it says 500FSB is reachable though not stable

You made a mistake with the DS4/5, either piccies got mixed up or it's a typo
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I was hoping for much higher FSB than that with P45- seems to be for all the boards pre/reviewed so far

    Thanks for sharing though!!

My P965 DS3 did 500mhz easily, so this is bound to once the early BIOS's get tweaked a bit.

Every P965/P35 are best clocker boards, but with last chipset is not ocing so easy.

He is using the F3b BIOS which is old as the hills. With the right BIOS this board clocks incredibly well. Just wait for launch.

Nice clocks for such a mobo... Spacemaster can you inform me about PL ? I'm testing P5Q Dlx and it's PL's are about 1 to 2 higher than before, when using 1:1 divider we have to live with 9 or 10 PL. When using Dividers we can bring it max down to 7 ( depending on FSB/Ram speed selected )
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Would OBR or someone check if this board have low DPC latencies by running the DPC checker app? No installation is required just run the executable file. And then run some audio apps or what ever software you got that makes noise.

And I will love you for 4ever and ever!

you either have a problem with one of the components in your rig or the motherboard because it makes no sense that you cannot change any menus
try to upgrade to bios first maybe

lol Marko 'sif ask what PL is

P45 chipsets on different mobos seem to all run looser tRD which is a bit disappointing but strangely enough with both boards i've played with now (Gigabyte P45 Extreme and Biostar Tpower) i've found that VTT and VNB are directly related and VNB has to be a touch lower than VTT otherwise i'd take a hit in FSB OC

this sucks because while the chipset is great and reaches amazing FSB at low VNB it's not really going to be very efficient until i figure out how to keep VTT below 1.5v while having NB past 1.7 for tight tRD action

    i have a few questions :

    1 - whats the difference betwin Ga-Ep45-DS3 and Ga-Ep45T-DS3 ?

2 - in bios, at fan setings, does it have the Voltage option ? or just auto and PWM option ? .
I am asking this, becose i have a tl blue orb, only with 3 wires , and i dont want it run at full speed all the time . so if it has voltage option the speed of the fan will depend on temperature ( lower on iddle, and high on load )

    Tnks

    Dejavu. This sounds too familiar.

Got this board, 4GB of Gskill PC8000, E8400 and a AMD 4850. Left everything as standard in bios, just changed boot order and made sure everything was detected. Ram default to spd 800 speed. Installed vista everything running well. Time to set ram speed, changed timings and voltage, save and reboot. Except it continued to reboot until it cleared itself and then it was back to default settings. Bios would tell me it had recovered, forget the exact message.
Tried all sorts of combinations but same result. Managed to get it to boot by upping cpu voltage and nb but it would blue screen during boot or die soon after entering windows. Updated to the F7a bios, same result.
    Swapped graphics cards, no go.
Tried my corsair ddr2 800, which is on the compatible list for this board. Leave it all on auto, no problems. Change timings etc. same problem.
Thought I could try raising fsb to make ram speed higher. Only raised it 5 Mhz to test and fell over.
I have RMA'd board. Hopefully they find a problem with it and I can get a refund. Think I'll go with a P5Q-E or the deluxe.
If it's the same issue as yours, I don't think any setting's are going to make a difference. Might be a bad batch with serious stability problems.
I was really looking forward to testing this board out. I had such a good run with my GA-P965-DS3. It was rev 1, never had a problem.

From what I can see the T versions are DDR3. Thats probably the only diff.

With F8a I can hit 500 FSB with my Q9450. 490 prime stable, too scared to stabilize 500 with this CPU but I may try w/ my E8400 later.

I just picked one of these up, and so far it only impresses me because it has some options in BIOS. What I can't stand about it, it refuses to POST at over 300fsb on my Q6600 L737B, that i've had up to 3.8 GHz before on a EP35C-DS3R...

I just got the DS3 version non raid and so far im impressed, only quick testing as i dont have alot of time.
Alot more bios options to play with which will be handy if you wanna really tweak it, if you cbf, which i cant, so far its a solid board.
