    aBit officially closes vDimm/vTT thread.

well as far aBit is concerned the vDimm and vTT problem is now resolved. They have closed the thread and will not answer any more questions.

I've already written to just about every person at ziff davis and they have been quite attentive to my problem. You can see my letter and response from them here:

    http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showth...hreadid=251990

I suggest everyone else do the same with other magazines and sites.

On one last note, what good is a review site if all they care about is whether the companies will send them more products if they gave them a bad review.

    Cheers,
    Axiom

Why not give up and go back to the IC7-G - I don't think OTES does anything anyway...

Somebody needs to give ABIT a kick up the arse, if I had paid £150 for a MAX 3 and was told to break off a cap and live with VTT problems I would be pretty damn pissed.

Good move writing to magazines though, maybe a few of those glowing reviews can be reviewed in light if this.
I've heard it all, I've seen it all, I've done it all. I just don't remember any of it.

So what's the final story on the board: RMA it to Abit? Then they desolder something but it's still not all there? I'm wondering whether to do that or sell the board.

I just got an early IC7 and the board rocks! Extremely stable with the latest BIOs, on a par with the P4C800-E, except VDIMM up to 2.8. The 5:4 limit with BH-5 is 280 fsb or so, the best I've seen so far 'cept for the Asus boards, which have none. Definitely more predictable than the MaxIII, even below 2.9 VDIMM.

Yeah just RMA the board and they will remove that one cap.

No fixes to VTT problems though. These people don't want to take the effort, money, and time to FIX this goddam problem.

This is why I go Asus

maybe someone can figure this one out.

After aBit PR closed the vDimm/Vtt thread and deleted a whole bunch of my posts, and gave me a threat that I would be banned if I talked about it on the abit forums anymore. I wrote to PC Magazine Chief Editor, who wrote back to me and said that he has spoken to a special contact inside aBit and that they will be contacting me soon via Email.

Today the thread magically opened up and aBit PR made it look like he had no idea why it was closed in the first place. Meanwhile we was sending me PMs telling me not to talk about it anymore.

Who was it that PC Mag talked to that made aBit open the thread up again. Why did they open it up? Did PC Mag figure something out warned aBit not to mess up cause they have their eye on them.

Magazines are always looking for a good story. Is aBit really conspiring to not fix the bugs and trying to cover up. Did PC Mag catch on and ABit decided to revist the issue instead of ignoring it?

Then I PMed aBit PR and what rule I broke by posing a question of "Why have closed the vDimm thread?", and he replied that I was breaking the rule making aBit look bad. How does that make aBit look bad. It was just a question, a simple answer would've been adequate. Instead he just deleted the thread. Then I said to him.

Me: Why are you beating around the bush, why don't you just tell me that you guys can't figure out what is wrong with the board, and I will cut the damn trace and fix the board my self".

aBit PR: "I don't know what trace cut you are talking about"
I'm sorry but this is all a little too strange.

NOTE: CATCH22ATPLAY and BIGTOE presented their finds to aBit PR last week. And the mod has already been in several forums.

Me: There is already a fix that Catch22AtPlay found, will you guys cut the trace for me, and soldier the wires and still give me my warranty?" The mod is located here: http://www.3dmaxx.net/forums/showthr...p?threadid=546

30 mins later, the vDimm forum had a posting from aBit PR saying that he will send this finding to aBit Taiwan to see if it is a workable solution. Where the hell was he last week went the solution was sent to him, and was he just bull$hit his way through?

    This is all too strange.

I would love to hear some comments on this.

    Cheers,
    Axiom

i remember when the first vdimm probs was discovered.

it was hard to convince him there was a problem with the max3. and all he said was the ram was faulty. lol

in the end he's only a PR, it don't matter if the vtt is fixed or not he just wants all the complaints to just stop.

Its obvious Abit really wants to leave this in the dust, but the issue has grown to big for them to handle anymore. I'm sure there will be light at the end of the tunnel!

I hope we can get the mags to shine some light on abits dark practices and watch their ratings go down. Maybe this will make them get off their @$$

I really want to get this board. If it didn't have the vdimm problem, it would be by far the best out there. I hope it gets fixed

Abit's not all bad, when my IC7's(G and non G) Northbridge landed on my 9800 and shorted the card out, they offered me a 5900 and a new mobo.
I had my 9800 fixed at an electronics shop as I didn't really want a 5900. But the fact remains Abit has decent business ethics, heck when the bad caps were an issue a couple years ago, Abit was one of the only Mobo makers to even admit there was a problem. While I do think Abit has some QC problems, I do think they are a responsible manufacturer that cares about their customers. I used to use only Abit mobos, but Asus also makes a great product, and I'm sticking with Asus for the foreseeable future.

I wish I would've followed my instincts and gone to an Asus board, but the promised out-of-the-box Vdimm was too much of a lure. Should've known better.

As far as moving to another board right now, I'd do it if I could afford to. But after killing my IC7-G, this one has to last me another year.

I agree 100% with this. I still have several of the legendary BE6-II Rev. 2.0 boards, as well as a couple of VP-6, BX133-RAID, and SH6 boards. These are still highly revered boards on Ebay for the Coppermine crowd. As I got most my boards used, the caps are bad on them. Abit has replaced the caps on around six boards so far for free. True, they should have used good caps in the first place, but the boards are out of warrantee and according to their policy, normally a fee is charged.

Hey guys, don't you remember the IC7 Vdimm and Vtt mods discussed here on Xtreme many months ago? Here's an early post on it:http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...219#post147219 I posted all the details of the Vtt mod, but it's difficult to do without specialized equipment. Really sad that Abit screwed it up on the IC7 so badly.
