my L745 is retail. i dont know how they designate a or b... or how their numbering system even works.... L745A = revision, 675 = platter? and revision to what? im confused...

what is the average voltage for 3.6ghz?

i did not test for 3.6ghz... my oc methods are a bit backwards... put it to speed you want, raise voltages until either it is stable, or load temps become too high *i consider 65 too high* then back off voltages to get final overclock. if stability is not attainable within my own set thermal limit i decrease the frequency, and once its stable, i reduce voltages once again and retest. then is finally graded as a keeper or a return. if the processor fails to get even close to what i would like it to do, it is returned/exchanged. before i even got a quad i said to myself "i want a q6600 that could do 4ghz @ 1.5 volts..." so thats what i based my tests around in selecting a processor. if you got it from frys, or any place with similar return policy, i suggest you try the same method as it weeds out the good ones from the bad ones quicker.

No problem man, I used washers, screws, and knurled knobs to mount it which increases the mounting pressure. It makes a noticeable difference temperature wise. Here is the guide I used. When I did it the pictures worked, but now the pictures in that guide do not work.

Im scared it might just fall off with the weight of the 2 fans added, hopefully it will be alot better than current push pin setup, im gonna try this method soon as my local hardware store is open next week. Thanks Man

No problem, the stock mounting method for the infinity is ridiculous. Good luck with the mod!

Much appreciated, I agree it is ridiculous all that weight on those crappy plastic pins, anyways thanks again.

Do you think I will be able to request the batch # from newegg? BTW. I like your system of OC, it's pretty much what I do. Up all the volts first... You should post some pics of the results you've had with stress tests.

That might be of some help and less ghetto. I think it should work, but I have not tried it.

Yeah it will be a lot better with a back plate. Mine doesn't have a back plate so my motherboard bends a little.

im not sure if you can request batch #'s online, thats why i got mine from a local vendor. i paid an extra $20 for the processor vs. online but then i also had the ability to test and exchange the processor which to me was worth the extra money. what do you want to see for stability? would occt cpu for 2 hours and a blend for 2 hours be sufficient? ive downclocked my oc to my previous setting because its getting to be hot here *was 95F yesteday... today is going to be a scorcher as well, good ol' los angeles * so im trying to keep temps down. its now 3.93Ghz @ 1.46 volts, ram 1165... guess i gotta update my sig for summertime...

    Got an OEM Q6600 L803xxxx from clubit.com.
    VID is 1.275.
Just started checking it out under a ultra 120 extreme, scythe 120-F, on an ip35 pro...

Scroll down to where it says Thermal Specification: 71*C. That is pulled straight from the Q6600 data sheet. I am not saying that that is the thermal limit, I am just saying that staying under that is my personal safe zone. You could run it all the way up to the TjMax before you actually started doing damage to the processor.

Thanks I was ready to buy that (lol) but had to go away the whole morning and when I got back I saw an Ebay Buyer with a similar name to yours and I had guessed it might have been you. Well let us know how it goes. All the Best

I am going to guess that it is either 1.2125v or 1.2250v based on others around it. I did see an instance from a Japanese Website that said 1.2500v, but I don't know how accurate it is. A poster from extreme has one of these with a VID=1.2125v

I am going to guess that it is either 1.2125v or 1.2250v based on others around it. I did see an instance from a Japanese Website that said 1.2500v, but I don't know how accurate it is. A poster from extreme has one of these with a VID=1.2125v
yup that was me that bought it

im probably going to just test it for vid and re-sell it again if its not any better than the cpu i have now. so you might still be in luck

all i know is that ive only got 1 motherboard and 2 quads now so 1 will have to go. either the new one or the old one... hopefully *for you guys* it will be my current processor as it overclocks like a champ! (but is lapped to mirror finish so no intel warranty)

on a side note, i went a bit overboard on my liquid cooling. 2 x 2.120 rads and a 120 rad... just for cpu and gfx all w/ 100+ cfm fans

will update sig and put up pics in the w/c section when i get everything together. now i gotta figure out how to get everything to fit inside the case

    *edit*

(just posted this in the retail q6600 thread too)

I just received my q6600- I was afraid I was going to get one from the L8xx batch, and I did , but the price (online only-not honored in store) of $180 was too tempting.

The VID is 1.325 and the batch is L804. Granted I've only tried it on my 780i mobo (which I consider to be a flaky overclocker), but I'm not sure it will even hit 3.6 ghz. I've got it OCCT stable for a half hour so far at 3.15ghz (450x7), but that required 1.6125v vcore (bios)/1.56v (everest). I need to set the vcore to around 1.675v (bios)/1.62ish (everest) to reliably get into windows at 3.6ghz (either 400x9 or 450x8), but at this speed OCCT crashes within a minute.

I've tried the memory (2x2gb gskill 1066) both linked and unlinked (and usually underclocked), and used a range of GTL REF values, and it doesn't seem to make any difference. On this board, I don't think it is capable of 3.6ghz unless I'm willing to go over 1.7v vcore in the bios !

I'm considering returning it and seeing if I can find any locally from an L7xx batch.

780i does easily 450FSB with the quads , keep the ram in sync to rule out stability probs there, though I benched fien here with P03 bios and 1200Mhz on the rams...

Sadly the reference design boards have big Droop/drop issues, me too needed 1.65 to bench at 1.53 volts (1.58 in winblows) which is horrific with the Qx...

Why don't you just try let the CPU burn in at 400FSB with 8 multi... then try to lower the Vcore gradually... but if ya keep the VID in mind it coudl well be that you need 1.5real volts to be even stable...

Looking at ya numbers you have a real bad clocker there requiring massive voltages...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Same thing happened to me. I eventually decided that it was divine intervention, and then my AMD fanboyism kicked in.
