Won't even run stable at 4.05GHz anymore.
This time I've had enough, how much can you take.
790i sucks, my 780i was way better, it would stay running for aleast 12hours.
I'm so pissed off you have no idea, who needs this crap.

    DO NOT BUY 790i
hmmm are you sure its not a dud board or something? :/
    what voltages did you use?
maybe too much chipset voltage damaged it or something?

Vfsb to the maximum and Vspp to about 1,45-1,5V.

Here my E8400 on the XFX. Couldn't get that "stable" for even 10 seconds on my DFI DK P35-T2RS. Can't go any higher, bcs. the limit of the cpu kicks in.

Are you sure it's your board? It could be your CPU or Memory. Read about the degraded affect on the E8x00 CPUs (when they are OCed with lots of voltage going through them). Your CPU may be the culprit.

hmmmmm reminds me of the striker1... one day a config works... then it doesnt... then changing stuff around but then returning to the same configuration as originally, it suddenly works again. its the same on evga 680, so its the chipset, but on the striker it was way worse than on evga.

i never managed to find out what i had to change to be able to get a config to work again... it all seemed to be very random...

I ran everything at stock, i tried one boot and some small fft with 475fsb and it worked fine for 30 mins, i tried blend and it stopped within a minute, but i returned everything to stock when the board died.....ram was at 1.9v, cpu was at 1.39v, nb was at 1.5, sb was at 1.55v nothing too crazy....i ran these settings for 30 mins of prime95 and returned it to stock and it died...........

EDIT: i got my new board today, when i get home from work im going to put it together, ill report back with some results.

thats not right man... thats not right...
people with such a fine chic in their avatar such as you dont deserve to have a board die on them like that hehehe

    well your sure it died?
the striker 1 boards went into deeeeep chomas every now and then, most of the time showing cpu init and thats it but eventually some of them came back to live... after some time and trying again and again and doing some voodoo dances

And not to forget...sometimes you had to remove any power from the board ( that means leave the board alone, with nothing plugged in and with the CMOS battery removed ) for 3-6 hours.

    hehehe, thanks bro

Yeah bro, i even tried it one hour later, it tries to turn on, let me try to explain it the best i can, a slight power goes into the system then it just shuts right off, my led fan will spin once and wont fully power up, i thought it was my psu in the beggining, but its a brand new antec 850w quattro, much harder to kill a quality psu than a board.....ive droped screws into my psu's and they didnt die!!! it even sparked, and it still works, enermax liberty, thats one heavy duty psu.

    Let me get this straight.
You try to power on the board... it "fires up" for a sec ( or half a sec ) and automatically shutdowns.
If you press the power switch again, does it power up again or doesn't do anything ?
Because the second thing is saying "Short-circuit...somewhere" [ and short-circuit could also mean dead hardware ]

It happens from time to time on my S2E,whenver I shut down completely and then restart after some time. But as soon I pull the plug off my PSU and leave it alone for a few minutes and plug it back in, it works. It also works when I push the clear CMOS button.

595MHz stable FSB on SS phase
on water i've done some 575MHz 32M runs

but it really depends on the chips
and it does take a little while to tune it right as well as i've had times during testing where it won't boot at 525 with another chip lol (vcore wasn't in the right range )......you do have to hit sweet spots if you are on air/water for volts >> for air/water you have to tune GTLRef a little as well as volts to get what you want out of the FSB

if you have subzero it is waaaay easier....you just bump the volts and just start from 550 in 5GHz incrememnts (all booting from bios)

i can boot at 611MHz i think it was (~5.8GHz) but FSB isn't stable

charles is perfectly stable at 600MHz FSB with his E8400 chip

I'm starting to be happy with mine, As a few have said on here the SE2 takes a bit of learning to get it stable, I did notice a lot more stability after I started Watercooling the NB. So far I have it prime stable at 4 GHZ and I'm starting to ease it up from there. I'm using the voltages Justfire posted btw.

yup, just found the 'lazy' FSB limit of my good E8400...it's never a bad thing when the CPU FSB is holding up your memory

just have to insulate the board sooner than i thought i would have to. gotta love the sub 12m dual 32m on air without any tweaks

    click for full size...
i don't quote in my signature, but best WR ever...

    nice man

increase your CPU voltage to 1.55v in bios
and try again for max FSB
bump MCP volts to 1.75v and also play a little with GTL values
i've had more luck lowering them to -110 on watercooling when i got stuck before

I can't seem to break over 10k on my Memory read/writes at all. I'm running 1T on my black slots at 7-7-7-20 1600 MHZ of Patriot memory.

    Anyone have suggestions?

thanks man, just not sure how much i like 1.525v on air going into my baby...oh well

as you wish...consider 14K on 790i done and done i guess. 550FSB just won't go though, even clocking up in windows. i tried with the '4:5' (AKA 5:8) and 550 just freezes the system, didn't bork the install though

545*8 is running a single 32M right now *edit* single 32M passed at 545FSB so it looks like i am going to have 545FSB useable on air. now to see if i can get that vCORE down and still do it.
