    Hmmm.. some 9800GX2 investigations

Me and Zannema was playing little detectives tonight and we found out, that 9800GX2 might be using same PCI-E overclocking method as 9600GT.

Everything else at same speed. Only PCI-E frequency raise.

First only PCI-E frequency raising. ( everyting else at same speed in every run)

    100MHz PCI-E = 76.106
    105MHz PCI-E = 77.410
    110MHz PCI-E = 78.788
    115MHz PCI-E = 80.554

If it uses same pattern as 9600GT, the first frequencys are equal to GPU speeds 600 / 636 / 669 / 709 and so on...

Then we tested little more, but now we raise only GPU clocks:

    100MHz PCI-E + 660MHz gpu speed = 78.230 (same as 110MHz PCI-E only)
100MHz PCI-E + 700MHz gpu speed = 79.100 (no score to compare, cause 709MHz is the next step)

Then we do the combination test:
    105MHz PCI-E + 630MHz gpu speed = 78.6 (the same score as 110MHz PCI-E or PCI-E 100MHz and gpu 660MHz)

So, these cards are having the same PCI-E overclocking method as in 9600GT. If you set your PCI-E frequency higher, graphics card will automatically overclock.

If this is true, we have to know the exact steps. Or if you use 100mhz PCI-E speed, you can find the limit of your VGA. After that you can calculate what PCI-E speed you can use and how much oc your vga can take after that.

    One Rivatuner update please

Yes, test in HDR1 (Canyon flight), i think that if overclock the PCI-Ex it have little better performance because you clock the GPU and the freq of PCI-Ex

nice find there, probably the other cards of this new generation use the same method no?

I think all 9-series cards will use this. Maybe 9800GTX owners could try this out?

Too bad I can't test this feature on BlackOPS. For some reason it doesn't work on this board.

By the way. My card does 820/2100 on 1.21V on air. It doesn't clock any higher if extra voltage is added. Weird

Maybe we need new bios or bios editor.
