I'm really glad a few of you have been able to install Vista 64 without an issue, but this doesn't mean that there isn't something wrong with our boards. So, go ahead and come on down from your pedestal.

As far as what board I am currently running, yes it happens to be a Gigabyte. But you might want to learn a little bit about someone and there experience before saying things like that. I have owned and operated almost every motherboard out there and have recently used the DFI P35 and the X38 motherboards. I know how they work and how to set them up. I just sold off the X38 last week, figured I had played with it enough. Also, DFI motherboards can operate at stock settings without tweaking. This is a fact, deal with it. If a simple OS install makes it freeze, at stock settings with kniown good hardware, then there are issues and believe me, they are not ram related either. I installed Vista 64 on the DFi X38 last week with the EXACT same components in my sig, but the X48 will not work? Board problem, not ram. Besides, apparently user cstkl1 didn't bother to pay attention to my posts. Go back and read them, you'll actually learn what I have done to troubleshoot.

Now, to pauldovi, sounds like we are having the EXACT same failure. Interesting. I'll let you know when my replacement board gets here how it works out. I'm willing to bet it will be just fine after that. DFI boards can be a bit finicky, but not like this, this is different.

As a side note, one good thing to report about the DFI X48, the Areca ARC-1210 raid card is recognised at 8X in the 2nd pci-e 16X 2.0 slot. In the DFI X38 it was hit or miss, but not in this board, so that is good news.

if ure expecting this to be a plug and play mobo like gigabyte.. ure going to be disappointed..

takes a lot of work and patience with this board.. but the stability of it just amazing.. hands down.. awesome board..
So the fact that at first it wouldn't even fire up is somehow my fault? The fact that I've tried every setting for the past 5 days with none working is my fault? The fact that my RAM worked perfectly in the GB but I'm now down to one stick in the DFI is yet again my fault? I've been on 4 seperate forums trying to get any setting that will work for me but nothing will. When can I say that the board is to blame? I have been building computers for 10 years now and have worked with 3 DFI boards so please don't tell me this is my fault. I'm glad your board arrived perfectly. When I got mine the battery was dead and when I replaced that the board still won't allow me to boot into it with anything but one stick of RAM. Everything is default the only thing right now that is changed is voltage in order to allow me to at least get into the BIOS and also into my old install of windows which is crashing about every 30 minutes.
RIP Dad. I will miss you always.

I almost picked up 4x2gig G-Skill for my new rig too, until I read this:

Folks this is not a flame or rant forum, its a place for folks to come and get help and/or contribute. Leave the attitude out of the forums. Shawn and Clunky have legit questions and issues.

Bottom line, at stock settings all mobo's should work fine. I experienced this same exact problem, (when trying to use AHCI or RAID with Vista 32 or 64), on the DFI UT P35 with any bios newer then 11/07. I tried setting after setting except for turning off Virtualization support, which we shouldn't have to do btw.

I always ended up going back to 11/07 to do a clean install. BTW I experienced this on 3, count them, 3 different DFI P35 boards. Other then this one issue the boards worked great and I use them in my wife's machine, my work machine and my game machine. Unfortunately I killed my game DFI P35 and I'm replacing it with an Asus Rampage primarily because of this problem.

Any suggestions on running this memory at ~900mhz? I'm pretty lousy with mem timings so the only thing I've tried is upping the voltage on the NB to 1.4 (default voltage for @ 800mhz). I also upped the vdimm to 2.2 (from 1.8)
    I have 4x 2GB stick (8GB total) @ 1:1 800Mhz
    Here's a pic of memset:

again i wasnt trying to flame or anything..
u could have corrected me anytime and hence u have..

    sorries..
but i am amazed with this board..
way better than the maximus or rampage..
as good as the dfi p35 LT...
only only quirk with it in the beginning was the achi when i tried my 2nd installation with the dfi drivers on that disk. which is y i asked.

well hey i hope its just ure board issue and the rma solves the os installation..
    this board definitely a keeper..

waiting for dfi fae to come with a bios to get the asus hd3870x2 top working.....
sishh that card only doesnt work on the foxconn p35 mars and this board..

With that chip you will need more NB voltage and higher CPU VTT. You will also need to adjust your GTL ref voltages too. Getting 450FSB stable is a challenge.

I am having poor performance and stability issues. Not sure if it is this board or not. I have not touched the BIOS yet as I prefer to get Windows up and running before I do any overclocking.

Computer is 1 hour stable using Orthos (100% on all 4 cores, 4GB memory use).

However the second I start up ATI tool or Windows Performance Index the computer crashes. No BSOD, just a loss of video. I have tried changing video drivers and underclocking, but same exact problem.

I noticed today that DFI has newer INF files as well as SG files on their site in case anyone needs them.

Quick question to all, for running just sata opticals, do you guys have the JMicron enabled or not? I have them in IDE mode right now which is why I ask. I'm running a SCSI setup right now, so no sata drives installed yet.

The LT (X38 Style individual SB, NB, PWM Heatsinks) is here now.

Both the LT & UT are the same basic board only the cooling mechanism changes so they should clock equally well.

As to which one is best well thats different for everybody, I personally like where poss to run simple & on air so the UT would be the board form me however water cooling fans prefer the LT's individual heatsinks.

    Hope this helps.

Ok I think I've reached what seems to be the max my mem will do: ~DDR850

    3.4Ghz @ 1.2vcore (425FSB)

I could always exchange my ram for something better but the likelyhood of squeezing another 400mhz is slim, I think.

I COMPLETELY forgot the FSB on these chips is 1333 so I bought ram like it was 1066 . Live and learn, I suppose.

Gerson, whats the big deal in returning the ram mate? If it's from Newegg they have 30 days returns (nqa) so why don't you do that you have top notch equipment there way waist it all because a weak more waiting the new ram to arrive?

That's what my initial thought was but:

    What I bought:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122
    What I WOULD buy:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166

    $159.98 VS $289.98!

Unless someone has some better ram for a lot less. I wouldn't consider downgrading from less than 8GB, though...

Newegg not so friendly returns anymore, now 15% restocking fee and you pay return shipping even if item is defective. I received my DFI X48 from them DOA and can not get refund even with the fact that its one day old, replacement only. On top of that I must pay return shipping. I understand the restocking fee and shipping fee on a new product you do not want but why do I pay return shipping on a defective product.
