On a slightly related note, what process is the X38 made on? I see people running 1.6-1.8v without any apparent worries so it makes me wonder.

Just did some googling and got some other forums where various people were claiming them to be nothing more than speedbinned X38 chips....but just found this where it says the 4-series chipsets are all 65nm?

That's not the only process that Intel is pushing though, because the entire 4-series range is now built on 65nm technology, as opposed to 90nm with the 3-series. So it turns out that X48 will be different to X38 after all...

that says that the p/g45/43 are 65nm the x48 is a 90nm
this bit tech article says that its 90nm and if it were 65nm dont u think that intel would be pushing that even though a die shrink would raise the temp and lower the voltage to far below the ram and the cpu so it wouldent make sense on a north ridge

i see that your article is more recent but i cant see it happening, this would make the x48 cheaper and have less overclockability and performance

I know new G45 and G45 HD are 65nm, but if X48 is still 90nm, in my head that will ring the same alarm as Nvidia releasing the "new" 9800GTX...
You know what X38 is, right? X48 is the same, higher binned with a new name.

Well it seems like no one really knows. People may say that they know, but it differs with another person who thinks they know.
We need to get an official word on this one.

Well since the ASUS Maximus Formula is able to be flashed to the Rampage bios, I would think the X38 and X48 chipset is the same, along with the rest of the board's layouts. If the X48 was a 65nm chipset, I dont think this would be remotely possible.
Just my 2 cents...
edit: Well I felt like taking a huge chance tonight by flashing my P5E to the Rampage bios. It was actually a painless procedure that took about 5 min! So I can say that my P5E is now running the X48 Ramapge bios without issue.
I found it strange that CPU-Z and Everest both detect the board as the P5E, but the bios is detected correctly with the 0219 Rampage bios string:

I did have to disable some of the temp sensor features to keep warning messages from posting about the non-existent sensors making false readings. But the other temps like CPU and MB temps are still working correctly.
