AMD Prepares 3850X2 for Computex 2008

In June, we might be able to see a new dual gpu card known as 3850X2. As the name implies, this card puts 2 x HD3850 on the same PCB interlinked with PLX chip. The performance should be close to Dual HD3850 running in CrossFire X.

I thought that the 3870X2 was 2 x HD3850 on the same PCB? or have I lost the plot?

You are right, todays HD3870X2 is from Two HD3850 with 512MB GDDR3 ...
I think ATi rename todays HD3870X2 into HD3850X2 and new model with better GPU a GDDR4 + new PLX will be HD3870X2

Not completely, as the 3870X2 has two RV670 chips running at 3870 speeds, the memory is the part that is skipped on currently, as the X2 is getting GDDR3 running at 1800 (DDR effective) which is still higher then the 1650 from the 3850 but not as good as the 2200 GDDR4 on the 3870.

last time i checked the cores of the 3870X2 ran at a faster clock in comparison to a standard 3870
can't you post normal replies instead of the arrogant 'i know all' posts

the second part of your post may be correct

You could expect this to be a downclocked version of a 3870x2 prolly. With worse circuitry etc...

    HD3850 (RV670PRO): 670MHz core/830MHz mem
    HD3870 (RV670XT): 775MHz core/1125MHz mem
    HD3870 X2 (R680): 825MHz core/900MHz mem

    So HD3850 X2 would be about 700MHz core/800MHz mem i guess.

Its probably an underclocked 3870X2 with GDDR3 memory, since they upgraded the 3870X2 with GDDR4 already. Probably just trying to get rid of old stock.
