alright, with a little tweaking, i got this bugger stable @ 375x8 1.425v. 376 or higher will not boot, and using x9 multi, 3.1 won't prime more than a couple seconds even up to 1.52v.
what can i expect out of a $65 cpu i guess.
edit: ok update, this thing LOVES voltage. 356x9 (3.2) is currently occt stable at 1.52v. might put more into it depending on what's safe, which i'm assuming 1.5 is as high as i should go but oh well it's cheap![]()

I tried another e2160 because my celeron 430 @ 3,6ghz would not be fast enough for recent games.
received a chip with old L2 steppingweek 39 2007 but I thought I'd give it a try.
It did quite ok with IHS still on so I thought to myself "OK let's pop it."because temperatures are getting seriously high with those epoxied IHS's as you might know.
Said and done, set 9x400 in bios, increased vcore to around 1,52...1,54V and started priming small FFT's. Not one minute had passed when the computer decided to reboot itself. No BSOD, no nothing, just restart. Very annoying. (I have "Automatic Restarting" disabled in Windows).
Temp's are fine, and I have all the stuff like C1E disabled in CPU Feature menu in BIOS. So I started playing with the other settings e.g. increasing vMCH, vTT, slowing down ram, memtesting ram (was OK), slowing down cpu by using lower multiplier and/or FSB. But whatever I tried, those instant reboots didn't stop until I seriously lowered cpu speed and vcore to around 3,3Ghz/1,44V. (which kinda sucks imho as I was going for 3,6Ghz+).
Now, to put it to an end (I don't wanna write novels), when reading through this thread, there seem to be quite a few ppl with similar problem. Either the CPU doesn't like higher volts, or it could be an issue with the power supply to the CPU (weak mobo, or bad psu).
Whatever it is, I will report back if I eventually manage to get 9x400 stable.
EDIT: found reason for reboot: vmch (nb) voltage too low. had to raise to 1,50v. odd though, b/c with e8400 i would hit 500 w/ stock vmch (1,25v). now the e2160 is stable 389x9=3501 with 1,52v. 400x9 not possible, needs very high vcore (prolly 1,60v+) to be stable, which results in very high chip temps even under water and without IHS. which in return means high rpm fans which is quite annoying![]()

is it realy that E2140/E2160 cannot go over 420Mhz - FSBwall ?

Some cant go over 380 fsb, some over 450... My e2140 had 476 fsb wall on air, my e2160 doesnt want to work properly on 400 fsb. It needs to much voltage.

Installing a high CFM 120mm fan on the Ultima might help, loosen RAM timings if needed and choose DRAM Ratio: 1:1.

i guess the wall has two sides . about 280 - 333 no good , at 3.10ghz now at 345mhz , tried 350 not completely stable altho thats with autovoltage on my gigabyte board , might play with them manually tomorrow.
i think it fits here...

Hi,
i have asus p5e, E2160 1.8ghz
Now i'm running cpu on 3.2Ghz
Vcore - 1.44v
FSB Term. - 1.46v
North bridge - 1.51v
Other voltage is AUTO
Cpu temperature on load - 51C with ZALMAN 9700NT.
It's looks like Vcore is too big , for E2160
1st question: How can i more overclock my cpu? What to change and sth like that...
2nd: is not too big temperature for 9700nt? The cooler is always cold, when i touch it, even when cpu is loaded.. Maybe thermal grease (ZM-STG1) is bad "brushed" on cpu (i don't know that word ), because i buy pc with this cooler, and it was on cpu, when i get it
sorry for my english...
thanks.

My E2180 with Crucial Ballistix Tracers.
Also of note, Transaction Booster is set to level 3 in addition to the super tight timings
This seems to be the optimal overclock for my chip. Any higher frequency would require a massive amount of voltage, so I worked on making my RAM timings tighter instead. Worked out very well.
I have P5B Deluxe & E2140 rev B0, i got FSB wall at 390, i can stable at 389mhz but it won't boot with 390
any idea would be useful for me
thank you![]()
I dont know if my E2200 is allowed in here but I don't know where else to post it, not a very good overclock anyway as I don't like it getting too hot and I dont like using high vcores with a chip I need to use for a year or so before I upgrade it to a quad.
I will soon try lowering the multiplier and upping the FSB, but Im only on a Gigabyte DS3 3.3 so Im not sure if it can take high FSB speeds?

again, sorry if Ive miss posted this in the wrong section. I didnt see a thread for E2200s and there still E2XX's after all.
Ben.
