Just upgraded to an E8400 from Mwave. Batch #0745A567. I have temporarily settled at 4.0GHz (445 x 9) at 1.28v (1.25 actual). No sweat. Everything else on auto for now except ram at 1.90v and just completed 6 passes of Memtest error free. Is anyone using Speedfan 4.33, when it works. I am not sure which sensor's to choose for the core temp's.

    Thanks

    Thanks
Just use CoreTemp and compare the Temperatures;P

You can also deduct that @ full load there goin to be a constant Delta of +10C on the Cores compared to the Tcase temps (Labelled CPU).

TAT can help simulate a 100% load, and help figure out the Core temps, just note that thoses Temps will be offset by a constant -1~2C because its not calibrated for CPUs using a IHS.

Hope that helps Mmmmm, Ill have to get myself one of thoses Wolfadles

I installed a Scythe Ninja Rev.b. I had to push it down slightly as it was barely hitting some fins. If I wanted to rotate it 90 degrees it fits no problem, but then the bottom aluminum fins are not in the direction of the fan. I used the Thermalright LGA775 Bolt-Thru-Kit and it was a breeze. In the future I will not have to take the motherboard out to change my cpu.

    Hey guys,

This is my first post on these forums, having been recommended to come here!

I was hoping you guys could help me with overclocking the following spec to 3Ghz (I'm only using air cooling, so don't wanna go too high)

    Conroe E6600, ASUS P5E,
    Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX,
    BFG 8800GT OC2, X-Fi Xtreme Gamer,
    250Gb & 750Gb Western Digital SATA,
Antec Neo500, Windows HP Vista 64 bit.

I recently had issues with my Asus P5B which lead me to upgrading to this Asus P5E, my friend helped me overclock my CPU with the Asus P5B to 3ghz, but he's away for a long time, and im not familiar with these new mobo settings at all, and the RAM timing page looks a lot different. I'm not too tech savvy

RAM in particular i don't really understand

I just want the nice performance i had before back again, so any help from you all would be greatly appreciated

Here's the settings so it shouldn't waste too much of your time if any of you guys decide to help me out

    Ai Clock Tuner :
    CPU Ratio Setting :
    FSB Frequency :
    FSB Strap to Northbridge :
    PCI-E Frequency :

    Dram Static Read Control :
    Ai Clock Twister :
    Transaction Booster :

    *Insert RAM timings here*

    Vcore Voltage :
    CPU PLL Voltage :
    FSB Termination Voltage :
    Dram Voltage :
    Northbridge Voltage :
    Southbridge Voltage :

    Load Line Calibration :
    CPU GTL Reference :
    NB GTL Reference :
    SB 1.5v Voltage :

    CPU Spread Spectrum :
    PCIE Spread Spectrum :

I'm on the newest Bios too, 0601 i believe

    Thanks in advance!

    hi all,

I have just installed the P5E with my E8500, i was just wondering if there are any hard mods for it out there, i have looked about but cannot find anything other than the pencil mod for the v-droop. Also is there a mod for increasing the v-core voltage past the 1.7v i can only do in the bios?

I'd also like to have some measuring points for both sets of mods so i know where i'm at

Thanks in advance for any help, i'd really like to get to 5ghz with this mobo.

    Blokey57,

Install 2x1Gb of ram to allow you to boot the first time. You probably will probably not boot with 4x1GB of ram at stock settings.

Set AI Overclock Tuner to 'manual'. This allows you to set manual settings.

    Then....
    FSB: 333
    VCore: 1.35
    Dram Voltage: ~ 2.1v
    Northbridge Voltage:1.45.
    Everything else on auto
This should then allow to boot with 4x1GB of ram.

These are the settings you need to worry about initially. You might be able to lower VCore a little with testing. You can tinker with ram timings after you get your cpu set.

    HAPPY MOTORING

    Hey mate,

I've tried those settings, it booted ok so, i placed the remaining 2 sticks of RAM in to make 4Gb. This booted fine too.

However, i've tried Orthos with a Blend test (stresses CPU and RAM), priority 9 and it failed after 27 seconds

Was i being too hasty, do i need to try anything else before i start testing it?

I'm guessing the RAM let it down.

Thanks so far for your help Doakh!

Went on 601 to see if it would help my windows sleep problem.

it didn't, but everything else works it seems.

I figured since it said it helped wolfdale CPUs with S3 it might help my kenny also... but i honestly dont know if its a vista bug er my hardware messing up.

it wont sleep, and i kinda need it, since i use my computer as an alarm clock.... and its kinda expensive to have it run all night just to play an mp3, instead of sleeping like i do :P

Does the maximus board has the same memory issues (bios >0201) as the plain p5e?

I would run Memtest for your ram and if it passes (mine did overnight) then boot and test your cpu independently with Orthos. You could run a blend test at your final test, but I did not my system is solid 24/7.

Hey all, wondering if there would be any issues runnin 2 of these:

    http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/thhrmoco1.html

They are the offset version, should i expect issues??? Or do i NEED to use 1 straight, 1 offset??? I'm using water cooling, so i figured both being offset would offer more room around the socket area....

U don't need to buy an "offset" (HR-09S). This is for use with heatsinks.
Also both leave the exact same space around the cpu socket cause the lower heatsink sits in the exact same position...

Does any1 have probs running PC8500 memory on there P5E? the other week mine wouldn't boot with G.Skill 1066MHz ram's and seeing as it was a week old I took it back to the shop. They told me it's a issue Asus have with 1066MHz ram and I should use 800MHz sticks. Totally unacceptable from them lol.

So I got home, put it back in the case with my g.skill and it booted. But it keeps regularly not posting, which requires me to remove the video card and ram cooler to remove the battery to reset the bios, putting in 1 stick of 800MHz, booting then putting the 1066 back in.

I'm going to return it again in the next few days, as it says on the Asus site it supports 1066MHz, but the shop told me it doesn't.

I dunno whether or not to ask for a different brand board, ie: Gigabyte, if Asus have these issues.

Boot with 2x1GB and increase the memory and northbrigde voltage (1.45v) for 4x1GB to boot. I would suggest you need to have them pass Memtest 2.0 also. http://forum.x86-secret.com/forumdisplay.php?f=14

Yeah I'm only running 2 sticks in it atm with the OCZ is being RMA'd. Had to post it to the USA from Australia

It won't post period now with the g.skill in it, so I have 1 stick of 800MHz in it. It starts up, and just idles over with no post beep. I have the 2 g.skill sticks that wont post on this board in the DS3P right now on memtest v1.7, didn't realize there was v2.0, so I'll run that over night, but they have no errors after 4 passes on v1.7.

When it was at the shop They put my cpu and g.skill in it and it wouldn't post. They then put a A-Data 800MHz stick in (just a single) and it posted. When I got home it booted with my ram fine, but this just randomly happens every couple of days to a week. I've had the board about a month now.
