Thumbs down Phenom 9600 + Vista SP1 RTM

Literally the only thing that has changed in the time these images were taken is the fact that Windows Vista SP1 RTM (6001.18000.amd64fre.longhorn_rtm.080118-1840) was installed. Image on left was taken directly before installation, second one directly after.

My question is, could SP1 really have caused this? And would removing it really fix it? Isn't it meant to improve performance? Because all I've noticed so far is the fact that system properties displays amount of system memory in GB rather than MB and a much longer boot time.

Hosser, The SP1 shows your memory as GANGED, while the Vista RTM shows it as UNGANGED... Not sure how that would effect performance, but it may be worth looking into....

Dave - you're right! I forgot about that - tried setting to Ganged after I got such pathetic scores. It was the same Unganged.

Using 1.1 BIOS that came with the board - I've never changed it since I was happy with the performance. No TLB fix.

Red button in AOD makes no difference for me.

Unless maybe, the TLB fix is built into Windows now, or into the AMD driver? Is that what you meant? Mant that would suck.

Yeah thats what i meant. I hope not though since its completely useless anyway for the desktop.

I've seen all the changelog in detail as I posted in the MSI/Phenom thread but there is no mention of the TLB fix. Only one microupdate for Barcelona was mentioned there which fixed a STOP error.

I'll test it out as I haven't updated yet although I'll be using Vista Ultimate.

SP1 seems to throw good real-life perf. increases but takes a perf. hit in synthetic benchmarks: http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=1244&tag=nl.e622

    For a reason IDK.

The main feature of Service pack 1 for Vista as developers says it is fast copy of files.

I can't go back to Windows XP now, it feels horrible in comparison.

I actually use my PC for work/gaming/everything, it's not just for benching! Windows XP just isn't an option for me now that I've got used to Vista.

    Here's the performance gain I stated, benched with a Phenom 9700 and RD790: http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=1299&tag=nl.e622

Kinda shows what performance potential an OS can reap out of a system with some tweaks.
