Comparison between 8800GT reference PCB and Palit 8800GS
The launch of 8800GS is because 8800GT 256MB can not resist the offensive of HD 3850. Not only 384MB
From the chart we can see 768MB 8800GS leads 64.72%. That not means 8800GS performs well, that means 8800GT 256MB in high definition & high quality situation performs bad.
Omitted those lower than 30FPS advantages, 768MB 8800GS have about 13% advantage.
In the low definition & low quality situation 8800GT 256MB is better than both 384MB and 768MB 8800GS. But We think 256MB is not enough for today’s games, unless you have little demand on definition and graphic quality.
HD 3850 256MB is 8800GS’s rival(in NVIDIA’s mind). 8800 GS 384MB seems have a good memory size, but HD 3850 have 256bit memory interface. But in the result comparison chart we can see 8800GS 384MB lead HD 3850 256MB about 9%. After we omit those lower-than 30FPS-score the 8800GS 384MB outperforms HD 3850 256MB 10% more.
When the price tag is the same, 8800GS 384MB is the choice. But because of 55nm process tech and 256MB memory size, HD 3850 still have room to lower the price. So who wins this mid-range war is still unclear.
8800GS 768MB’s enemy is HD 3850 512MB. Based on result 8800GS 768MB leads HD 3850 512MB about 20%. After omitting the lower 30FPS score the 8800GS 768MB still outperforms HD 3850 512MB about 15%.
