well i think the trick to this board (for me and others) is gonna be:
1) BIOS!
2) Figuring out the GTL for each user, this seems like to key finding high OC and clearly it is a difficult setting to master
3) Cooling the PWM , mine is really hot and i think i will be disassembling my system completely (a hell of a task) just to install my hr-09 on the PWM.
4) BIOS!!!!
so far after spending all day on GTL volts and changing my ram to 4x1gb dominator 8500 v 1.2 ive got my q6600 @ 3.6 (8x450) much more stable, still not great at priming tho :\. the only time it ever locks up is in prime, never in normal use.

why would u need a 6850 to do more than 500+ with a ddr2 board then why would u need it are u going to be using 1500mhz ram thats not necessary since u can raise the multi on the 6850

To those trying to get a handle on OCing quads on this board, perhaps a review of this article from anandtech may help. I know it is for a different chipset but the Bios' are very similar and the OCing aspects and concepts must also be similar. At least that is what I intend to do.

Is there a need to replace the sb heatsink?
Also what's better for the pwm area?
Thermalright HR-09S or Thermalright HR-09U
I put this on my sb and it is awesome!!! Very quiet and keeps it super-cool.

Anyone have some screenies of some bench's??? Under a dozen screenshots out of 366 posts.. Most done by Ace..
Eva was right, should be called "offciail chit chat on DFI X38" thread..
I'm debating on this board and the p5e/maximus and would like to see some performance proof on this board.

I agree with you totally. I've been really behind in regards to getting anything done with this board. Gonna try to change that this coming week but I doubt if I'll post much in this thread. Here's a couple memory screenshots from a friend. Clocks memory just as well as the P35 maybe a bit better.

Praz what was your friend running for cooling and if it was water cooled can you list what parts he is using?
hmmm i like the SG's background pic as compared to the P35
@Praz: those are great numbers...temps & voltages even greater!are those possible on the P35?
I can get close to those numbers and voltages on the P35 but can't match them. Here's a pic of the board as run.

Ah so it takes a hell of a lot of modification to run 4.0-4.2ghz stable 100% primed, but no good for daily usage.
3.6-3.8ghz i can see is a good ballpark for daily usage either with great air cooling or good water cooling.
It is looking more gloomy to spend 1200-1500 for a CPU to not get 4.2ghz for a daily user and you maybe have to spend $3000.00 by the time your done just to maybe get it to run 100% stable for daily usage.
This is not impressive for any mobo setup, dollars per performacne factor.
All i want is a 3.6-3.6ghz daily user and 4.0ghz if possible for daily usage 100% Orthos primed for 12-24hrs.
Quad-Core is what i am talking about.
If you're spending 1000.00+ for a processor 4.0 - 4.2 24/7 will be no problem. And I'm not sure what you mean by modifications.
How about spending 300-500 for a CPU to run at 4.0ghz stable and as for modifications..... put that freaking thing in a CASE and see what the temps will be and if it will run 100% prime stable for 12-24hrs.
Modifications.... adding extra fans around certain areas to help cool it down, means it not a proper daily user has to be made of modifications to run like that.
Spend 1200-1400 plus tax and shipping for just a freaking CPU is nuts, when a lower 300-500 CPU can almost do the same as that 1200-1400 CPU can do.
I want to see Daily Usage here people not MAX OC as if i wanted to see that on this nice DFI mobo i would spend $3000.00 total and LN the damn thing.
