Best fitting High Perf C.P.U Cooler for AM2

Which one of the top rated CPU Coolers fits the AM2 socket Boards correctly without sloppy play in the mount?

I was going to use my Tuniq 120 for this D.F.I Build but the way it attaches to the retention bracket on the board is very sloppy and it slides around ...not what I would consider even worth while to use! So currently I am using a Zalman 9700 which is OK but would like to step it up to a thermalright 120 XTREME any of you guys running AM2 boards have any input for me?

i would be interested in an answer for this question as well since i do not believe that the cooler supplied is going to give me adequate cooling to allow comp to run 100% on all cores 24/7

It should work just fine....I know they made an updated bracket for the 120extreme....I had just sold mine not to long ago...Worked wonders on my M2N32deluxe before i went under water... That sounds funny for some reason...

make shure you lap the base ...Mine was severly bowed new...Nothing a little elbow grease cant fix

On my AM2 setup ( X2 4k+ @ 3000MHz ) I used GeminII with dual 120mm fan. Setup work good, cooler also cooling ram, nb, cpu pwm

Thermalright 120 Extreme has best mounting mechanism for sure, four screw down bolts to enable even pressure on the CPU... id recomend buying their own Am2 backplate mind as often mobo ones are not that good i.e bend!!

the tr extreme is excellent. Even after lapping the base it is very solid. It will need to be lapped and you can not wiggle it once the screws are tightened. I think the bracket update was for intel mount. Very easy to use, unscrew top plate. Save screws and plate. Apply thermal paste to cpu. Put spring loaded screws on plate and slowly lower to board (very good alignment). Start by hand,
give a twist and then tighten down. Place fan and thats all. I think you will like

Do you know if HTT wall (240) I'm experiencing with Phenom is related to CPU or board?? I'm not sure which to replace to get ~3GHz X4...

I can tell you its not related to the board (the boards can run over 400MHz with good K8s)...

what CPU / NB / HT Link multiplier combo are you using to crap out at 240MHz?

Try 1.2G HT Link (x6) multiplier and lower NB multiplier (if your board has the option). GBT should have the NB FID option in the BIOS soon.

i am sorry but i am a little confused do i need to get Thermalright AM2 Retention Module for Thermalright or is that just not required on site that i may place order with says "(Both Ultra-120A and Ultra-120 eXtreme do not include a backplate for AM2 systems. If you have motherboard manufactured by either Asrock or Gigabyte that utilizes the push pin method, you will need to make a separate purchase for an AM2 metal backplate.)" i am using msi k9a2-cf-c mobo (ms-7388)

Go for the tr 120extreme .A friend of mine has it and he oced his 5000be all the way to 3.8 ghz @1,65v.Personally I'm going to use watercooling on my am2+ rig.
