finally it comes: the real G92-8800GTS leaked photo

There’s lots of info about G92-8800GTS, and we would like review it again: it will out in 11 Dec, have 128 SP, using 8800GT’s PCB design, and have a upgraded dual slot cooler. The frequency will be 650/1625/1940MHz(core/shader/memory), higher than refrence 8800GT.

Though source mentions that G92-8800GTS will use two 6pin power connector, but the product looks only have one. the total power consumption will be as much as 140W. manufacturer suggest using a juicy ATX PSU.

There’s some pics leaked earlier, but the pic is too mall, and under that cooler actually is a naked 8800GT with changed different baffle plate. Also the power module part is different.

I'd be surprised if it needed dual power connectors but I suppose it could happen.

I think I know which card I'll hold off for now and just get it as soon as it's available and it can be bought for a maximum of ~60€ more than 8800GT so around 8800GTS 640MB price levels (the cheapest ones). Would have to wait almost that long for a 8800GT anyways so.

I hope it has 2x pci-e connectors so my Thermaltake ToughPower gets a benefit, this should provide at least sufficient amount power for our PCI-E 1.x setups whatever speeds we'd clock it to.

Hope the power modules scheme is different and provide more stable power so higher clocks than GT becomes available so it will be worth the extra cost.

too late for me I need a new card before then, unless Nvidia can guarantee availability on or near that date, hopefully the price won't be too high.

    I don't get it?

Is this a replacement for the GTX model?

I mean, if not, how would the performance be better then the GTX?

Unless the only difference is that the GTX will have 768megs and this will have 512?

In that case, seems the GTX will still hold the title at higher resolutions.

I'm thinking NVidia is stuck and can't really move forward in performance yet, so instead, they're going to pump out a bunch of "tweaked" versions of the earlier models in hope of moving the market a little.

Finally, if the GT is selling for $300 most places, this new card will easily be $400 or more, you can get a used GTX for that price, and in turn, why wouldn't you?

interesting stuff shame i can trun it in SLI (on an intel chipset)

and guys its really not all that complicated Nvidia have revamped their line up (smaller processes improved features etc) but have decided to keep the original names as opposed to using 8900 naming convention probably marketings fault!

    Uh, no. Actually, it'll be:
    Ultra, GTX, GTS 512 G92, GTS 640 G80 112SP, GTS 640 96SP, GTS 320, GT 512 and GT 256.

They're already messin' with you, as I'm sure you know, the GTS G92 will be 512mb(/1gb?), per the 256-bit controller vs. 320-bit (320/640mb) of G80 gts.

I agree the naming is essentially borked, they should've just called the damn things 8900gts and 8900gtx, like AMD did the 3800 series. Even with the the lesser bus, they still match or exceed their previously-released brethern, or close enough to call it a refresh. Considering the 112 now lines up on both the GT (g92) and GTS (g80), it would've made a hell of a lot more sense.

As for power, I could see this clearly topping 150W, or darn close, therefore needing the extra connector...especially with 1gb on board or with any factory overclocks.

Still power (connectors) aside, which obviously isn't indicative of power consumption, this should be a beast of performer.

EDIT: Beat to the punch on the GTS correction.

Thanks, kinda indirectly proves my point thought doesn't it? If i'm confused, what the hell is Joe Bloggs gonna think...

    Nice one nVidia :/

Only positive I can see is if you get an uninformed online store that discounts the new GTS 512MB 112SP down at GT 512MB price or something...Gonna be hell for those websites as well.

    ED#70 : NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra/GTX/GTS/GT Gossip

What a day! On November 20, Marcus and I flew over to Singapore to attend an NVIDIA press briefing.
To compound the start of a disastrous day, we discovered that the NVIDIA press briefing was not about a new GeForce 8800 card that many had been hoping for.
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

    * There will be a refresh of the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB.
    * However, it won't be based on the G92, but an improved version of the G80 GPU.
    * The new NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS will have a soft launch on December 3, 2007 with market availability only two weeks later, from December 17 onwards.
