If your gonna buy HD3870's I wouldnt bother with Thermalright HR-03's....when you can go and get Thermaltake DuOrb's and get the same effect with half the space taken.
Just got done installing them,
Before the card used to idle at 50-55C or so (bout 20-21C ambient) and go all the way up to 85-90C at load with Crysis.
The result?
Will be testing load temps later on.
cheers![]()
That looks awesome! though after buying all of this, i will be broke... so i'd be with stock coolers for a while
But i will consider those, thanks!

ChaosMinionX,
Are those coolers TT VGA Cooler?
Just wondering as it doesn't say HD2x00 or HD 3xx0 compatable. If that is the one I think I'm going to put that on my new egg order. Which will be the exact same time more 3870's come in stock. Still waiting to buy 2 more.

^ yup those are it. the mounting holes on the HD38xx are the same as X19xx cards, so any gpu only cooler that fits X19xx cards will fit.
@ Chaos, are the DuOrbs loud? i'll only consider these if their quiet/near silent.

Purecain do the cards scale well at lower resolution like 1024 768 or 1280 1024 and what type of fps can you get at those res in crysis with everything set to veryhigh?
i found this site http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....547&card2=518# it calculated the pixel fill rate after upping the core and mem clocks... very interesting...

but I cant find a right MOBO.
can you guys give me a hint ?
i m looking for a 8x + 8x, so will 975x do? I also want to keep the OC ability

the P5E X38 would be the way to go, no point buying an old chipset.... the P5E is cheap enough m8....
Nice, I would love to see if Overdrive is also working in 3870+3850 CF + X38 in Vista64.

Purecain what performance are you getting in Crysis with two 3870 and ist playable at veryhigh with no aa at 1280 1024 or 1024 768?
i played the whole game with high-V.high settings at 1680x1050 and had 24-49fps... even @ 24fps(which didnt happen to often) crysis was still sharp so no mouse lag or anything. i'm hoping the new bios gives me another 2-3fps with 900mhz core...
and the overdrive feature works flawlessly overclocking both cards in vista 64bit....
excellent news :-)
just waiting on pay day now
