oops didnt read your whole post, even the tiny bit that might get out is nothing to match the gwp of people driving suvs because theyre "safe", I would even use a cfc, if they were cheaper, just leaktest at 200psi for a week and not be stupid and let it out, instead of recovering it. and my parents wont let me use hc's, maybe the auto i'm building will convince them to let me use them, oh and i'd get r1150 instead of r170
and the r11/123 are to condense easily in the condensor and let out a lot of heat, also, from what i hear r11 carrys oil really well

I think you all are thinking of particle board that cracks and crumbles. MDF, not so much, i have only had that when i tighten a screw down way to tight. But other than that MDF is ok. Hey noob why don't you use some OSB?????? LOL

MDF is good stuff if you work with it correctly. Here's a post I made @ OCForums with some general tips when you're working with MDF: link.

A little more back to the topic, so far so good methinks. Looks like this is going to turn out to be a pretty stellar build for both performance and cleanliness.

If it is r23 then substitute ethane instead. It has nearly the same boiling point, and is probably a lot easier to get. It also does a far superior job of returning oil.

In the Polycold units I work with, they used ethane in combination with the r23 only because they were trying desperately to meet guidelines of flammability in order to ship charges via air. The ethane was needed to control the oil migration. They could of easily eliminated the r23, and just gone with more ethane instead.

As for flammability, this really is a mute point as far as the mixture is concerned (assuming all the other components are either HFC , HCFC, and/or argon), since as a mix, you would be hard pressed to make it ignite. However if you had a leak somewhere around your third separation point, it is conceivable that the ethane would be in a pure enough form to be flammable.

Nol I understand the lack of cash thing. I myself have had to postpone several projects for this same reason.

Actually got r14 though, so changing this too a different setup. Still want to get r23 though to finish this one. But I will be most likely doing a 2hp bigger unit after this, r11,r23,r23,r14. Hey Mytek! Good to see you back.

I can definitely see that going to your advantage, especially since not as many people build autocascades, so since I know you sell some of your units you could make a nice amount of change off it.

Bah phase building has and I dont think for me at least will ever be a profitable enterprise. I want to build autoc more for entertainment of my mind, and that and I havent really seen a "proper one" what the HVAC guys call running on black magic built here on forums yet.
