    Some schematics for chillers

    I have a lot of time on my hands recently, so I designed some chilled liquid setups I am going to build once I return home.

    I want to see which will be more efficient, plate hx or submerged coil. I have two identical compressors waiting for me so I will make two identical systems, trying to keep all variables the same. This will be mostly for my own amusement.

    I will also be utilizing a water cooled desuperheater coil before the condenser. It may turn out that I wont even need the condenser. It also may turn out that the superheat will be too high and I will then only have one compressor. We'll see.

    Here is a layout drawing I did. This is what results from long hours on shift with NOTHING to do. This drawing alone took like....1.5 hrs in paint.

    The part where the liquid loop just stops and reappears..yeah, thats where the block(s) are installed

    Also, will probably end up using txv instead, because these can "self regulate"

    Tony, so the plan is to use the water from the evap/HX/RES chilled section to cool the DSHC? If so it's going to cool down a lot and you'd not need the condenser at all

    yeah hopefully. would save a lot of space. dont know the load from the dsh coil though.

    I would put the "dsh" coil after the condenser, might as well remove as much heat as possible before the coil. Even without a fan on the condenser it would help.

    Save your money, all you have don is made an over glorified SGHX. An expensive way to burn energy with no net effect is another way to say it, by doing it that way you take all the heat + some and put it all back into the water. Think of it like driving in circles when you want to get across town!

    Other then that interesting thought, just needs more thinking time put to it

    Again any attempt to use the main system as a sub cooler will net 0 energy benifit only subtract. Only way to get any increas would be by using a secondary macanical sub cooler or some sort of secondary flow through system not attached to the main system, other wise all you do is negate the system.

    Where others are adding heat from NB/BS and/or gpus, this will only cool cpu, so extra heat cooling itself replaces the heat normally added by components. Maybe it wont work. Maybe it will. It would definitely save space in the case if I dont have to add rad or condenser, just a vertically stacked dsh coil with insulation. Granted it is a glorified sghx but one that saves a lot of space.

    There is no "Maybe" It will NOT work efficiently, it WILL waste energy.

    Point taken. It would be dumb to use it cool it self. Reworked it a lil bit...err alot. Thanx

    On a completely unrelated subject, what about a cascade chiller? Is there a liquid that would still flow at those temps? Besides liquid refrigerant...
