Cool Xeon X3230 G0 - L713A290 ES

Only the 2nd one of these I've seen on XS AFAIK ?

System:
• Intel Xeon X3230 QYPT GO L713A290 ES
• Swiftech G4 Storm/Thermochill 120.3/MCP655
• Asus Blitz Extreme 0601 bios
• 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
• 2x1GB OCZ PC3-14400 Platinum - DDR3-1800 rated at 8-8-8-27 at 1.9v
• 500GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA on SATA1 Port
• LiteOn 165H DVD Burner
• Sony FDD
• 1KW OCZ ProXStream
• WinXP Pro SP2

Xeon G0 LGA775 cpus come in three models which seem to have slight higher rated TDP of 100W vs the Q6600 G0 stepping @95W:

Intel Xeon X32xx Quad Core G0 stepping:

Intel Xeon X32xx Quad Core B3 stepping:

Intel Core 2 Quad line:

Intel Core 2 Extreme (Quad core):

Let's see how stock temps are... as we can see stock VID = 1.275v and AUTO vcore in bios confirms it at 1.248v real vcore when AUTO vcore is set. This is same VID as my Q6600 B3 ES cpu as well which managed on water cooling to be Wprime 32M + 1024M passable @3920Mhz at 1.616v in <14C ambients.

10x266FSB at stock VID = 1.275v

Room temp = 22.4C

This cpu is a bit weird i must say temp wise is slightly cooler under small ffts quad prime95 load clock/vcore for clock/vcore than my Q6600 B3 ES but prime95 wise isn't as good as my Q6600 B3 ES but wprime 1024M is better on Xeon X3230.

Basically, since Xeon X3230 ES meeds more vcore for Prime95 small ffts than Q6600 B3 ES, the final load temps are about the same 62-66C on same water cooling - Swiftech G4 Storm/Thermochill 120.3/MCP655.

i.e.

Prime95
• Xeon 3230 ES @3600Mhz at 1.48-1.49v (under small ffts load vcore)
• Q6600 B3 ES @3600Mhz at 1.44-1.45v (under small ffts load vcore)

Wprime 1024M
• Xeon 3230 ES @3600Mhz at 1.376v
• Q6600 B3 ES @3600Mhz at 1.45v

Systool Quad 16M
• Xeon 3230 ES @3600Mhz at 1.416-1.45v
• Q6600 B3 ES @3600Mhz at 1.45v

Looks like a good benching cpu this X3230.

Xeon X3230 G0 @3600Mhz at 1.48-1.49v

Now at my goal overclock of 3600Mhz which took 1.48-1.49v to get there.

CPU Idle

CPU Prime95 v25.3 Small FFTs load

Ended up same load temps as Q6600 B3 ES due to needing 0.03v more vcore on X3230 G0 ES.

I have a D-Tek Fuzion water block I plan to swap in and swap out my Swiftech G4 Storm since D-Tek Fuzion is meant to be able to drop load temps by up to 10C compared to the Storm as per http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=136703

Bumped it up to 3900Mhz but needed 1.592v

CPUZ Validated

Systool Quad 16M

Super Pi 32M with PC Probe2 and coretemp/cpu running together:

Load temps

Finished

Cinebench 9.5

3dmark06 cpu test passable @3900Mhz at 1.592v but with FX-5200 PCI card it's a crappy score LOL

I have the same cpu eva. Identical, same week same batch. But my VID is lower, 1.2625!!!!!!!!!!!

2.66G with 1.22v idle real after droop, and 1.18 load real after droop (while doing small prime). and now the fun part. with a stock e6600 heatsink...

my average core temps are 45 idle, 65 load, with the little intel aluminum circle , but my apogee gtx should be coming tomorrow or friday. the rest of my loop is empty and waiting for the block.

I will post my results in your thread since its the same chip essentially... wish me luck!!!

Yup sure is... this Xeon X3230 has some potential with wPrime 32M + 1024M @4000Mhz at 1.64v and max cpuz validation also at 1.64v of 4112Mhz!

It seems lately the ES's have been way out performing retail. Great Chip though eva2000. Great review. I'd hold on to that one!

nice chip eva
my dont go on air above 3900mhz, once I've seen 4ghz and validation file was corrupt, but your cpu need more voltages @ 3.6G hmm, interesting..

and yeah, you asked me for maxfsb.. it was around 480 as I remember..

there is an effect.. but v1.53 wprime is a bit slower than previous versions due to the added anti-cheat measures etc in v1.53 wprime

so far DDR3 is fun to play with but not sure whether the Blitz Extreme might be holding back my max FSB of my cpus as my P5K Deluxe has clocked all my cpus at least 10-20FSB higher than Blitz Extreme but bios is still early 0601 version and 0702/0801 didn't change much for max FSB.

had a quick play with max FSB can having issues booting above 415FSB for some reason Will have to try a different motherboard to see if it's a board issue or not.

1A modded block ,old 120mm rad , 5L of water , aquajet 1200 pump

FSB wall in WC ~450mhz

+7 under -105° , i benching wprime 1024M @ 4500mhz (and certainly little more until FSB wall) ...

interesting the FSB is varying so much we have between 450-480FSB and mine on Blitz Extreme is 415FSB.. swapping cpu into another board now to see how it goes.

Swapped the Xeon X3230 G0 Quad core cpu into Asus Blitz Formula with different cpu cooling.

System

Compare stock 10x266FSB - 2673Mhz temperatures reported by coretemp 0.94

Asus Blitz Formula
CPU Cooling: Corsair Nautilus 500 3/8" tubing
Room temp: 24.8C to 26.8C
Idle: 33C/37C/31C/31C (average 8.2C above room temp)
Load: 52C/54C/51C/51C (max 29.2C and 27.2C average load to room delta temps)
Post Load idle: 36C/39C/34C/34C

Asus Blitz Extreme
CPU Cooling: Swiftech G4 Storm/Thermochill 120.3/MCP655 1/2" tubing
Room temp: 22.4C
Idle: 28C/32C/24C/25C (average 4.85C above room temp)
Load: 43C/44C/40C/40C (max 21.6C and 19.35C average load to room delta temps)
Post Load idle: 28C/33C/25C/25C

In terms of delta load temps, seems to be about right in terms of water cooling where DIY setup of Swiftech G4 Storm runs about 7.85C cooler under load and 3.85C cooler idle (looking at average load to room delta temps).

Repeated same overclock of 3600Mhz but this time on Asus Blitz Formula instead of Asus Blitz Extreme but at 9x400FSB instead of 10x360FSB at same vcore 1.488v idle / 1.472 under load.

Seems even on Asus Blitz Formula this Xeon X3230 G0 ES has a low FSB wall of around 416FSB - whether it's due to bios/board or cpu itself not 100% sure. Still for water cooling this Xeon X3230 G0 ES is a ripper, how about quad instances of Super Pi 32M @3950Mhz - 10x395FSB!

System

Note, ran quad Super Pi 32M with realtime priority but with following windows running at same time but all SET to LOW Priority - hence why AI Suite and coretemp didn't update temps etc as Super Pi was hogging all the cpu time
• 4x cpuz windows
• 1x memset window
• 1x Asus AI Suite window
• 1x coretemp 0.94 window

wow, quad 32M at 3.95!

what voltage was that at?

also, have you tried cpu-z 1.40.8? it should show the voltage correctly now.

those cpuz windows are 1.40.8 and vcore not reporting correctly.. 1.40.8 can't even save the cpuz validation file properly hence i used 1.40.5

1.65v bios set = 1.616v windows
