may be differant on different cards depending on stock core volts thuo.
Soldered a 10k multiturn VR, works flawless.
    Anyone noticed large vdroop ?
    Mine idle is 1.42 V and load 1,35 V.

Yes, there is indeed a large voltage drop on the GPU core power regulator.

Dinos, the MCW-60 rocks on GTS cards, I'm able to beat my GTS stock cooling with more then 30°C on load (fan auto)
There is no other VGA waterblock who can touch this kind of performance

What temp are you getting @ load?
My EK fullcover keeps it at 46 max

Beneath 40's, even with pump at 7V.
In the Madshrimps link you showed above we can read this on last page:

    ...

Danger Den NV-88GTS-PC & NV-88GTX-PC: full cover waterblock

    SwifTech MCW60 + MC8800 SMC cooling Kit: G80 waterblock + passive heatsinks for memory/mosfet/NVIO

Keep an eye on our website as Madshrimps is about to review each of those 8800 compatible heatsinks.
Guess we'll find out very soon what is hot and what is not

Am I correct in thinking that for the vgpu mod in the madshrimps article. You just connect the VR between the red point to any ground? This point looks easier to solder than the one in this thread.
By any ground I mean, can I use a pin on the power conector as ground and not the pink spot. As the pint spot looks alot harder to solder (more chance of a short).??

EDIT: or is it the red point that is the ground?

It's well explained in the picture:
VGPU mod for reference 8800GTS. Pencil resistor marked in blue or solder a VR between red and pink. The pink point is the one you always have to use, red is ground meaning that you can connect your VR to a black PSU power cable instead of the red point.

Don't think it matters as long as you use the middle for one and either one of the outside ones for the other point.

Use trim pot legs 2 and 3. Resistance will go lower and your target voltage go higher as you turn
the adjustment screw clockwise using 2 and 3. Your ground connection can go to either leg.

i dont really get wat u mean... um, does that mean i use pins two and three only? like pin three to ground?

    No picture lol.

Hmmm thought I was pretty clear lol. Normal control response to adjustment is for the voltage, sound volume (hell even water coming out of a faucet) to increase as you turn the control clockwise. Using pins 2 and 3 will get you that. If you use pins 1 and 2 (you always use pin 2 which is the movable wiper in the pot) the adjustment will be backwards.

well I know my Qcore can do 4.2ish, and I score 16K on water @ 3.4 so I am sure its a real possibility.

If I can get 3.8 on water, MAYBE even 4...............(I can dream can't I?) I might be getting a phase unit, if I do, well..............there will be fun to be had..................

Just done the GPU mod on both my GTS's cards.
Resistances are fine. Voltages are up to 1.35 without turning the resitor down and the cards still boot.
    GREAT!
Waiting for glue to dry to stick the resistor to the board before i play with it to much (so i don't accidently move the resistor and pull the solder).
Next up is a pencil mod on the memory.
should i be worried about the left over flux on the board or is it harmless?
    Thanks
    Richard

Sorry to ask such a n00b question, but every other vmod i've done I've used non variable resistors (which i would still prefer to do). But after I do the Vmod i crank the resistance all the way to the highest value before powering the card up, correct?

    Yeah put it to max.
put it to max before you solder i find its easier that way.

I'm already doing 660/2100 stock cooler/voltage on my Leadtek 8800gts. What gains could I expect from the vmod providing I'm cooling the card well. I haven't soldered before and I would like to learn more and get a soldering kit but I dont really know where to start. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

You might want to try your soldering skills on lower-end (and cheaper) hardware. 20W soldering iron should be ok, make shure you get one with a fine tip. The vmod on the GTS won't get you much further because of the safety precautions in the voltage regulator.

Thanks wittekakker. I also took some notes from the solder guide. I'm gonna pick up some stuff and try the solderless vmod just to get my feet wet.
