When I came back from the gym, I plugged in the power cable and it booted right up. Now I am just trying to get this thing orthos stable...

My Mushkin seems to boot fine even after a CMOS clear. But it seems that each of these boards are slightly "unique". I've already bumped the cpu voltage to 1.45 in the bios and I still get orthos errors at 400x8.

The only way I got the board to boot was to borrow a stick of OCZ 6400, the board then posted to Bios. Once I set the Memory voltage to 2.2v the Mushkin then worked fine. If I reset CMOS then it will not boot with the Mushkin.
hmmzz very odd I got a XP2 8500 aswell:X, and i got my rig for like week and a half , the first boot I didnt had prob, it came with the 0202 BIOS, and it booted without a prob, had even set on 2.0V @ 1066 5-5-4-12. but then I flashed to 0311, and still on it

Apparently, my chip wants volts. Took 1.6v under load to pass 5 minutes in orthos (blend). Interestingly, my load temps are about the same but the idle temps went up a hair. Seems a bit warm for 24/7 at load 50-55c cpu, 59-60 core temps, but then my 333x9 at auto voltage was about the same.

Crap, just got an error at 15 min. Going to 1.5v in the bios! I think 55c (cpu not core) is about the safe limit for 24/7, what do you all think?

Also, are most of you that are running 400 or lower on the fsb using NB voltage of around 1.4v?

Leave Orthos alone and enjoy your PC!

Test it with your games and applications, but please, stop trying to pass orthos like it is what you built your PC for!

    Enjoy it!

One of my G.Gkills sticks died last night

What should I get while these are in RMA? Should I go with the Crucial Ballistix Tracer (PC2 8500) or maybe the CORSAIR Dominator (PC2 8500)?

Will newegg split me the difference between the return and one of the above?

    thanks

did you buy the gskills as a kit?....if so, rma both back!...if you are asking about getting full credit and then purchasing a different brand, then call them to resolve that issue over the phone....they have been fantastic to me when it has been something like that.

this is something that's been going on for a long time.

programs like coretemp and orthos recognize the default mult and not the changed one so it always thinks your speed is default x fsb even if you change your 6600 to 8 x 400 it'll think 9x400

Orthos stable up to 423 FSB on the stock 1.25 volts, and 1.2 on FSB. I'd say leave those alone.

    Question

I've got a p5k deluxe mobo. Can I switch on the computer with an E4400 (FSB 800) and Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066mhz RAM modules or will crash before I enter the BIOS?

will memory start at 800mhz or ?

All depending on how they are programmed, my OCZ dimms boot up, but I need to set 2.2 volts directly or it won't boot up afterwards as the bios sets 1066Mhz after the reboot and it needs that voltage to run...

They will boot but at slower speeds (prolly DDR800) , alter voltage immediately and you will be fine ...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Well, set auto and test bandwidth, then set 11 in bios and retest...you will see a huge drop in performance.

The bios is borked....i see this a lot as the bios has to apply an 8 offset which Asus forgot to apply in this build.

the board is good down to bios setting 2 which is 10clocks with 1066+ and setting 1 lower down, when have you ever been able to set this low on these values on the P5b etc? DDR2 just can not run sub timings that low with intel chipsets

Interesting so if it's truly 8 value offset, it might explain how i could do

    4x1GB @490mhz 4-4-4-9 2-25-2-2-4

But is it a 7 or 8 value offset in above even at 2-25-2-2-4 ??

    here's 3-30-3-3-8 subtimings shows 7 value offset again ?

Write recovery time and Write to read delay are out by 8 clocks in bios. It is usual to have to adjust up by 8 clocks but Asus forgot to do this in build 404.
    Code:
    bios memset
    1 9
    2 10
    3 11
    4 12
    5 13
    6 14
    7 15
    8 16
    9 17
    10 18
    11 19
    12 20
    13 21
    14 22
    15 23

this is the same for both options, i tried editing the strings but they are global to a host of settings are removing 1 thru 8 had 5-5-5-15 showing 13-13-13-23 is bios LOL

    Just watch out for this
For the Write Recovery time and the write to Read delay, bios and memset are right; I explain:

Write Recovery time and Write to Read delay are internal dram timing.
There values are usually 3 to 8 for Write Recovery time and 2 to 6 for Write to Read delay.
But memset don't report these value, memset report Write to Precharge delay and Write to Read command delay.

Here is how these value are calculated by the chipsets:

    Write to Precharge = Cas - 1 +BL/2 + tWR.
    Write to read command = Cas - 1 +BL/2 + tWTR.
    BL(Burst Lenght) practically always 8.
    tWR(Write recovery time) is 3 for ddr or ddr2/400 and 4 for ddr2/533, 5 for ddr2/667-800. It's can vary.

    For example, If your have ddr2/533 and your Cas latency is 4,Write Precharge = 4 - 1 + (8/4) + 4 = 11.

It's the reason that memset report higher values than the bios.
You can see here at page 114 for Intel explanations.

    Felix

The issue is the intel memory controller can not actually run 1 or 2 clocks ddr2 TWTR etc, so you have to offset to 8 for the true values, was the same on 965 AFAIK.

Either way im not bothered but the bios is missleading IMO.

How do you get that conclusion ? electronic components can die anytime anywhere any place... also what happened ? heavy overclocking ? overvoltage ? we will never know ...

3 reports of peeps ram dying means zero to me...
