P5K3 Deluxe - BIOS 0504 - Strap Changes

ASUS has implemented the FSB Strap to North Bridge option on the P5K boards now. This is just a start as we are working on MCH strap changes and opening up the latency settings in the near future if ASUS engineering approves those changes for release. They are still leary due to customer service concerns but hey, we got their attention on it finally. The issues they are facing right now is how to control the AI and Auto clocking settings since the ROM table for the RAM is set by BSEL on both the CPU and Chipset.

Here are a few screenshots on the P5K3 board of the BIOS settings, working on results right now. We finally have some DDR3 memory in-house that will do 2000MHz in dual channel mode, waiting on two more sticks to arrive for 4GB testing. We should have DDR2-1333 memory at the end of this week also. I will post this BIOS up once we have finished verification testing.

I never thought i would say this, but I actually prefer the DQ6 over the P5K-Deluxe. Letting me hit much higher FSB w/ E6x50 G0 CPU's. I hope gigabyte releases a similar option besides "standard, turbo, extreme".

We are still waiting for a 04xx version that at least fixes sata problems...and P5K3 already has a 05xx

Gigabyte is working on the same BIOS changes for straps and doing away with Ctrl-F1 on the upper end boards. Use the black dimm slots on the ASUS board if you want to improve memory clocking or latency changes.

wow, that is great news. The ctrl-f1 thing at this point just makes me laugh. We are going to leave open the option for people to feed 2.0Vcore+ and 3.3Vdimm+, but we are going to hide memory timing options, lol.

I'm not sure I understand this "setting the strap" option. If I'm at 460, like I am now, aren't I way above those strap numbers?? So does it make no difference to me??

main strap change is definitely nice to have togglable. But isn't it more or less rather moot? I mean once you exceed what is it (290fsb?) all the memory dividers show up, and by selecting those at belong to the different strap, you're effectively placed into it. Since there's no 1:1 in 266strap.

But definitely, ability to adjust internal latencies would be fantastic.

If only asus still kept up legacy support for serial/parallel like the ds3r

I was hoping to have some additional results by now but came across a very interesting problem during testing. I have been using the R600 cards in our P35 tests and have noticed an occasional warm reboot issue with every board. During the strap testing with the ASUS boards, the warm reboot issue really manifested itself when changing straps and as it turns out when trying to clock my QX6700 past 3600MHz. I dropped an 8800GTX in this morning, poof, warm reboot issues went away, could run the 800 strap up to 330FSB (was 308 with R600, ASUS is trying a new spin to get us to 333+ now), and the QX6700 clocked about 150MHz higher at the top end. I pulled out our new rev P35-DQ6 and noticed the same issues so I do not believe this is limited to ASUS currently.


More later.... The screenshot below will not be impressive for DDR2 users but with this BIOS, 5-5-5-15 DDR3-1066 settings are possible now with most modules and 6-6-6-18 DDR3-1333.
