Quite possible, I got the rebooting every 3 seconds when my Ballistix stick half died. Did exactly what you are describing. If you have other RAM sitting around try it. Haven't tried the BIOS myself so can't tell you if it's a quad core issue, but I know mine did the endless reset when I had bad RAM.

    Sorta newbie here...

    Ubiquityman,

FTW,, bad RAM (incorrect SPD programming?)

Something gone south with mobo caps or PSU caps?

Run BIOS (floppy) recovery again and at reboot after flashing, set jumper to Maintenance mode, hit F9 Load Setup Defaults

    might help/ might not

Have you tried to reflash to an earlier BIOS?

I have a BadAxe2 revision 506, which I am building up as finances allow and I'm finding this thread very informative.

    I`m running a Xeon X3210 on my badaxe2, The FSB max out at 395, but my 24/7 setup is 3000MHz (375 x 8) @ only 1,28V Superstable

Now thats what i'm talkin about! I figure that if i can get a 3220@ 378fsb, wich is what i use daily with my E6600, it would probably require less volts, and hopefully run a bit cooler also, whilst increasing performance...

    Unless i'm just reaching here???

    I hope not.....

yes, but unless it's the 45nm process, it's probably one that isn't clocked as high. A QX6700 can get down to 105W by underclocking.

I'm using Kingston ECC RAM. PSD is correct for this RAM
Also, system works reliabilty on previous BIOS version.

No visible signs of bulging caps, no reason for suspecting PSU.
System runs fine overclocked to 3.2GHz w/ a 8800GTS. I'm running a 8600GT right now and it works happily with prior BIOS version.

Run BIOS (floppy) recovery again and at reboot after flashing, set jumper to Maintenance mode, hit F9 Load Setup Defaults
I've tried removing the battery, disconnecting the power supply and waiting 3 hours for CMOS to erase.

Have you tried to reflash to an earlier BIOS?
Yes, and prior versions work well.

I have a BadAxe2 revision 506, which I am building up as finances allow and I'm finding this thread very informative.
The marvell chipset sucks big time. It's the worst part of the motherboard. The other big challenge is keeping the VRM transistors cool.

The best guess right now is that it's related to ECC memory.

Unfortunately, I agree - it's probably memory. This has happened to me before during a BIOS update, but I'm not running ECC memory. I think the board killed one of my modules though - it's off in RMA land. I have another set of RAM sitting around, which is how I'm running now

    Good luck!

FYI, I spoke to Intel Tech Support today and they were able to recreate the problem. Now we just have to wait for a fix.

I have a weird problem with my bad axe2. Any changes I make in BIOS setup are not being saved and my computer would not load os from hdd or any other bootable device. It just stops posting and displays code EB in the lower right corner. Did anyone ever have this problem? Thanks

Oh, I tried bios recovery method too - nothing happened

Are you trying to save overclocked settings? Sometimes if it's too high, it'll revert back to default, and stuff won't stick.

Im just wondering, whats the odds of me getting a Q6600 or QX6700 to 3.6ghz 400x9 on BX2?

are many getting these quad cores to 3600...wow I would imagine heat would be a big issue

I would love to know if you can run the qauds at 400fsb..I really wish Intel would allow lower multiplier on this board

I had this happen after a failed overclock. Started a thread under help and support-search for "untimely demise of bad axe 2" or something like that-was a couple months ago.
Have also found at least 2 other references to the identical issue on xs but never any solutions. (one is WAY back in this thread.) So this will make 4 that I know of unless you can figure it out.
Real weird-could get into bios, sees the drives, etc just always hangs as you say and will not boot from any device. I tried absolutely everything with no results.
Finally RMA'd it. Replacement has been fine with all the same peripherals.
    Currently messing with:

9x400 for a quad core on the BX2 would be hit and miss. I can only POST at 9x380, I saw an Anandtech article where they got 7x416(or something less then 430, but that won't work on a Q6600 for BX2 with locked multi). Many others have had similiar results of not making 400. So while I have no doubt a quad can run 3.6Ghz in this board(I fold 24/7 at 3.66), if it can do it at 400FSB is really up in the air. Other MB's are doing far better at quad FSB.

I've suffered a dead stick (2x1GB Geil ULL 800Mhz) a couple of months ago, I finally got the RMA back and within a month another stick has died again.
I'm pretty sure its been slot 2 both times (0,1,2,3) and thank god for this forum or I'd never have known this. I've borrowed my bro's 2x1gb whilst he's away so I'm gonna move them to slots 1 + 3 just in case.

incidentally, I did rush my initial set up.. I've always run my ram @ 2.04v, even though the frequency was always around 667 -> 700 Mhz.. I'm now running @ 1.9v @ 800Mhz and it works fine so It may be a combo of overvolting and a dodgy/unstable slot

Well...I'm now at 3400MHz (Middle of orthos run...40 min so far).

    FSB:378 REF:266 MEM:667
    Vc:1.400v (1.388 at load) Vfsb:1.3v Vmch:1.55v
    Buffalo Firestix Memory at 4/5 (948MHz) and 2.1v 5-5-5-15.
Temp during Orthos Blend Stress test with Enzotech Ultra-X:
    Intel Desktop Utilities: 49 C
    TAT: CPU0 45 C CPU1 at 44 C
    Core Temp: CPU0 46 C CPU1 46 C

    Overall I'm pretty happy....Maybe I'll try for 3.6 GHz

    (edit by creicks)
Looks like I spoke too soon.

After 5 1/2 hours of Orthos blend my computer spontaneously rebooted. It's not the first time it has done that.

On prior occasions I have bumped the processor voltage and all has been good.

Orthos has only visibly failed one time....the rest of the times my computer has just rebooted and voltage bumps have seemed to fix it. The spontaneous reboots started when I passed 370 fsb. I see in this thread that this problem is not uncommon (I bumped my Vfsb to 1.3v)

Guess I'll search this thread for similar problems/other causes. Maybe something else is contributing.

Have any of you had hard disk read/write errors with BIOS 2333? I read somewhere that there is a problem with this board and that BIOS.

Also, for any of you that are running Linux with this board, especially Debian, how did you get the sound to work?
