yea seen the X3210 in one UK e-shop, a fair bit cheaper than the Q6600 right now. (£260 vs £330)

almost crazy to get a quad with the impending cuts, unless you absolutely need it of course

Hmmm yes, a little mistake from my side. Q6600 price cuts shouldn't be too far off though...

Excuse the ignorance, but what is the difference between a Q6600 and an E3220 ? Are there benifits for choosing the Xeon over the Core2quad, and do you need a special chipset to run E3200 series cpu's ?
    Has a very small epeen.

No special chipset, just normal s775 boards that support quads work. The difference is that it's roughly $100 cheaper (making it the cheapest quad) and it's clocked 267mhz lower. I expect it to overclock about the same as the Q6600, just with a lower multiplier.

There is no difference in architecture of the chip, the only difference is maybe the Binning done for higher temp resistance for the xeon..,.

Id go for the xeon if it overclocks well.

I expect Penryn to launch at the end of Q3 or early Q4, price cuts of the "old" 65nm quad cores should take effect around that time.

By the time Q6600 hits $266, penryn and DDR3 will be (probably) more favorable
I dont think enthusiasts willing to have 2nd fastest rig
    Just a thought guys
Should we worry if by the time the price cut happens, conroes and kents will become harder to find coz intel start releasing penryn to the market??
And yes, ill get xeon instead kensfield if i have the money
