Penryn NDA expires July 15 !! Samples shipping late June

    http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/31804/135/

Chicago (IL) – Intel is gearing up for its next-generation micro-processors. And we hear that Intel may be much closer to be releasing its 45 nm processors, code-named "Penrym", to production than we previously thought: Expect reviews and benchmarks of Penryn to surface early in Q3 of this year.

Official information about general availability of Intel’s 45 nm processor remain scarce. As of now, Intel says that the 45 nm “Penryn” family, which will bring a new generation of desktop and mobile Core 2 Duo and Xeon processors, is slated for a late 2007 introduction.

However, industry sources recently told TG Daily that a whole bunch of non disclosure agreements (NDAs) for the pre-release and distribution of 45 nm processors are already in place and carry a July 15 expiration date. “Pre-release”, of course, does not mean that Intel will launch the processor at this time; however, we received confirmation from our sources that initial sample shipments of Penryn are scheduled to begin late in Q2 and early Q3. We also expect the NDAs also to apply to the press, which means that first real-world Penryn benchmarks are likely to be published on July 15.

i would think so since some of the p965 boards support 1333fsb, there would be little use for it supporting that fsb if it wouldnt run the processor

found a good example, probably gunna be a bios update with penryn release is my guess: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128042

Yeah, that must be why AMD is hiding behind synthetic benchmark projections compared to Intel parts "at the same clockspeed", and failing to provide hard numbers and system configuration data on real applications.

Because Barcelona is just so "killer" (tm Henri Richard).

Penryn? Yes, 25% smaller diesize gives $$$$ extra to Intel and its stockowners. We could easily see record breaking 60%+ gross margins.

Of course. Because they can. One fab is ready to go with it. Which will be more than enough to match AMD's slow ramp of Barcelona and derivatives as the other 45nm fabs are brought online.

Penryn crushes Barc, while 65nm C2D crushes the K8. The point is to deny AMD both PR and $$$.

Now im going to predict that x38 will surface soon, a Penryn lauch on mainstream chipsets would be lame. [/gurumode]

Looks like Penryn will beat both the K10 release and its performance since there wont be many K10s in the wild until Q1 2008. Time to start short selling AMD stock.

Yeah, your right, but we might not see it until Q1 2008.

I don't know what to do. This is similar to the R600 fiasco. If I don't get Intel's offering and wait around for AMD to release their quad-core which may or may not be better, I might end up being screwed playing the waiting game, much like those who waited for the R600 all these months.

actually, c2d and k8 are current gen. penryn is a refreash of c2d, and nehalem is next gen along with barcelona. from the looks of it, penryn and barcelona will be going head to head.

    I'm loving the pun
In short, both AMD and NVIDIA discovered that their next-generation graphics cards are superior to each others' last-generation graphics cards.

Only can hope that it will run on the P965 boards. Really hoping for it will give me a new referesh this fall on my proc and up my clocks and speed a wee bit more I try keeping to the 1 year full upgrade, 1 year replace CPU/GPU way keeps costs down while trying to keep up with tech. Theres not only the FSB issue but possibly the voltage issues feeding the CPU which might not totally work with the current gen. Lower voltage or what not like us OC'ers really care about "lower voltage"

Paul O. already announced the "tick tock" approach: new uA every two years, followed by process shrink (and add-on improvements) so it's expected. Of course, if they pull in the schedule, then so much the better...
