When it went to load windows it claimed one of the loader files had a bad header and that I would need to do a repair from the Vista DVD. Ya right!

    I power it off again, but then it failed to POST! I have a minor OC of 333fsb, 1.38vcore, 266/800 4-4-4-12 @ 2.32v memory (4x 1gb ocz titanium alpha). I move the jumper to maintenance mode and power back on and it gives me memory error beep codes! I had to pull 3 sticks to make it into the bios! I reset the memory voltage back to 2.32 in the bios and save but it still won't POST in normal mode.

    I had to change my memory divider to 266/533 for it to boot in normal mode! Vista loaded just fine (I knew the files couldn't have been corrupt).

    What gives? Any suggestion why my memory will no longer run at 266/800 on 333fsb? Is it possible the MB is damaging the modules?

    Regards,
    Sker

    I found on my board I could not get 266:800 or 333:800 to work...not sure why(well 266:800 is way too high mhz on my ram)..but 333:800 should be fine since my ram would have be at like 460(it will run winxp at 487 or 266:667)

    50 passes on test 5...this about 1 hr -1.5 hr max

    test 5 ..always seem to be the one that failed for me if I pushed too much and if I dont get 50 passes(like i said once i hit like 38 passes amd then got memory errors), i get issues..ie dvd burns for example..yet Prime 95 passed fine

    I personally like Prime 95 version 2.51....but orthos is fine but uses older version of prime, FWIW

    when i set 3500..390x9 with ram at 487mhz(266:533) 2.16v 5-5-5-18...I can pass 50 passes on test5 but I could not get 3Dmark05 to run without pushing vcore up...it seems the cpu is getting stressed but I thought the memory controller was on the nB and not on the die of the cpu
    with the opterons/A64 dual cores...if you pushed ram speed/timings this was common problem and I would need more vcore
    I was surprised this happened on my C2D

    I did not push past 1.6v on mch to see if I could get 266:533 stable at 5-5-5-18(also it maybe the 18 should be lowered ...sometimes it is weird how a lower timing may help too)
    How do you get 487mhz (266:533) at 390x9? According to the strap calculator it should be 391mhz.

    Anyways I think it was my Everest version. Woke up this morning and I passed Orthos 8 hours with load temps right at 60 degrees. Saw gtj's post so I went and downloaded the newest Everest trial and refreshed the benchmarks a few times and no crashes yet. This is at 5-5-5-16 though so I'll have to test more later

    Below are my settings:

    FSB = 400X9 (bios 2333)
    vcore = tried 1.55 to 1.6 (everest states vcore as 1.5v when bios is 1.6v)

    vfsb = tried 1.425 to 1.45
    vdimm = 2.2

    ram ratio = 266:533 (1:1)
    idle temps = 51-52c

    * failed orthos in less than 5 secs.
    ** pass memtest+86 at 400FSb (4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15) for 2 hrs
    ***C1E disabled via C1E inf file, EIST disabled, power slope enabled, VT disabled, all unused ports (parallel, 1394, cpu fan control) disabled

    Try 266:533. I cant get 266:667 on 390+ FSB.

    EDIT: Now i see, 266:533....Maybe your E6600 cant run at 400FSB.

    My old E66 (L630A) can do 3500 @ 1.49V.....3600Mhz maybe with DI and 1.8Vcore . I never get it stable @ 3.6Ghz

    My new E6400 (L626A) can run at 3600Mhz @ 1.42V, 3700Mhz @ 1.48....My BX2 tops around 440FSB on 266 strap, and 465 on 333 strap. Orthos stable.

    It's just luck...

    your temps seem high
    shouldnt need more than 1.6 mch and 1.4-425 fsb for 400

    about memtest
    I find test 5 and 8 to be the ones i get errors in if something is wrong
    for me 5 tends to be NB error and 8 tends to be the ram

    Perhaps I'll give that a try. Strange that it's been working stable for weeks at my vMCH of 1.55v. I'd love to know what happens in the MB when a blue screen occurs. Seems like USB devices play some kind of role.

    Well my comp is 20 hours Orthos stable at 3.42 GHz. Just ordered the Thermaltake Ultra 120 Extreme so I'll wait to get that before I try for 3.6. Pretty happy where I am now, temps on load are at 59-50, idle 41-42 or so.

    vcore 1.4500, vfsb 1.350, vmch 1.550, memory was at 5-5-5-18 2.20v. Now it's time to try and tighten the memories. Hopefully they will still do 4-3-3-4 like it did at 3.24GHz.

    Ugh. So I updated the BIOS to 2692 using the Express method. I figured I might as well since I had to get in there to change my vMCH setting anyway.

    BIOS update worked alright, until it went to load windows... or more like DIDN'T want to load windows.. or anything. It would give me a black screen with a blinking prompt, and that's it. Wouldn't boot from any device (even USB). My RAID & boot device settings were all good, it was driving me nuts. After maybe 15 tries with various settings, I finally disconnected all hard drives and left a bootable CD in the Plextor.

    What do you know? It booted. No idea why it was hanging up before. I plug my drives back in, and well... here I am. Back in Windows.

    This board is a real headache sometimes! I don't know why it was doing this.

    On a happy note, I am running again at 266:800 @ 4-4-4-12. I had to up my vMCH to 1.575.

    Excuse me, I am a newb to this board (just getting ready to unbox mine) but after reading about the BIOS versions, I am wondering why you would want to use anything past 2333?
    Just curious.

    Since there is a price drop coming, I've decided to get the Badaxe2 and get a quad core.

    My question, is there any real difference between getting a Q6600 and the Xeon x3220? I've tried searching around the forum but haven't found much info regarding this. Supposedly the Xeon is more rugged in a sense, more testing done.

    Anyone have thoughts regarding this? Already got the motherboard and g.skill ram, now just waiting on the price drop.

    you shouldn't need more than about 1.4 vfsb and 1.625 vmch. these were the values i used to get 9 x 400 with mem at 3-3-3-8 timings 1:1.

    only other thing i can suggest you try is to put a fan over the NB assuming you haven't changed it out for something else.
