    Doh....you guys weren't kidding - Yate 4tw

So today I received my 6 Yate Look 72cfm fans, which I purchased after reading many threads of fan choice (and watching Pete's fan vid haha). I plugged them in I was amazed at how a 32dba fan can be as quiet as the 14dba Silenx Xtrema Pro fan and blow as much if not more air. I already had the Silenx Xtrema Pro fans from before you jump all over me....heh.

What a complete waste of money.....doh.

At 30 bucks a pop those Silenx fans are a joke!!! I think I paid about as much for all 6 Yates as I did for a single Silenx Xtrema Pro 120mm. Crap.....crap....crap.....bah.

I also purchased 2 of the Yate Loon 72cfm 32dba UV blues and they are actually quieter than the 14dba (eerrrrm....bull)....Silenx UVs. WTF??? lol

Bah......grrrr...... <-----slapping the ass of Silenx

    Temp comparisons coming soon!

Btw, on another note if anyone is interested I bought a couple of those Evercools to use as a chipset cooler and a few Enzotech copper sinks to test out, small one and a large one. Looks like the enzos will fit on just about anything....Evercools for the SB. Will post temps soon. Can't be bothered to water cool the NB/SB. Just trying to get the MCP temps down.

Yates are the best imo, and I've ordered some paspts which claim to be better but I doubt they are better enough to warrant the hike in price.

Cheap, quiet and good CFM - can't ask for more.

If it ain't watercooled, I don't wanna know.

The D12SM-12 Yate's are great fans for a PA series rad. I am trying ebm Pabst 4412 FGML fans on my PA120.3 now. So far I am very impressed with these fans also, they undervolt well with very little noise. ebm Pabst makes some very large fans for the HVAC industry and have always been known for quality.

Wondering, should I get the S12SL-12 or the D12SM-12 yates for the MCR320? I like quiet, but I'm wondering if the D12SM-12 with a rheobus would be better. Thoughts?

ahahahaha.... sorry masaville, i know exactly how you felt when i migrated to yates.

And you get volume discount at jab-tech to make it about 3 something each. Sometimes on sale for 2.70 each at +4 volume.

I didn't even know that Yates made UV fans. Can someone provide me a link?

I thought they only made LED fans. Anyone know the quality of those compared to the coolermaster LED fans? I'll be putting them on my case, PA120.3 and MCR220QP.

They are better! Ultra quiet and the LEDs look kick ass.

    I have coolermasters as well.

I've been pushing the Yate's for years. Before I completed the final design specs for the PA radiators, I researched pretty much every fan that explicitly claimed to be "quiet". Pretty much every single fan that the manufacturer said was "quiet" was actually not quiet at all, or if they were quiet they were only because they had been undervolted so much as to be near useless.

The only real decent fan that I found were the Nexus fans, but then discovered that the Nexus fans were just modified and rebadged Yate-Loon's. The Yate-Loon L's were the only fan that I found was actually quiet, and somewhat surprisingly, were never actually advertised as being quiet, and had fan noise values that were not grossly understated for advertising purposes.

The PA radiator series were pretty much designed around the Yate-Loon fan series as a "reference" fan. It was the fan type that I was most concerned about during the prototyping stage of whether or not some radiator design change resulted in improved performance, for 5/7/12v operation. All other fans in my testing revolved around the yate-loon's being used as the reference fan. I did not ever find a single fan that offered any better performance for the same low noise level.

Of course, this still doesn't stop manufacturers from just making up figures lower than another manufacturer to get more sales. This dishonest marketing technique is still sucking in people to this day.

    HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAA LOL HAHAHHAHAHAA
The 14 db thing is closer to 30 FIY, 30db is 10^1.6 louder which is...hehe
Vapor's tests show that a few other fans are very awesome, the papst, the sharkoons, and one of the silverstones. The yates fell behind but are like 1/3 the cost of ANY of those fans.

Doubt it. These fans are pretty quiet.

What you said pretty much sums it up.

"This dishonest marketing technique is still sucking in people to this day."

I hate BS marketing, but it's in every industry. Companies always pad their numbers to make themselves look better than they truly are.

For $5 a fan or less you'd be insane to buy any other fan. The performance isn't there. Even in those extensive fan test threads it shows that the best of the best are not signficantly better than the Yates. At least not in terms of price, which is generally triple or quadruple.

I'm now sold on Yates, not gonna waste another nickel on any other fan brand, unless something revolutionary comes out.

For the <50cfm rated fan speed range, the Yate's can't be beat. There are better fans performance-wise (>50cfm of course), but all of them are significantly noisier, IMO. Have tried the Papst's, but the motors always tick.

Have not tried the Sharkoon's myself. That's a newer fan on the scene.

By "Very little noise" you mean motor noise aka motor clicking then undervolted ?
I was told they (may) have a noticeable motor noise, especially then undervolted.
This motor noise can only be detected by human ear, and is very annoying.

I also heard that Papst quality is going down, probably not as bad as Panaflo but anyway.

In Australia you can buy them at most computer trader swap meets. Over here they are sold under the "Tricod Science" brand name (the Yate-Loon L's). They are the exact same fan, body, motor, etc. Just go to a swap meet and poke around for the Tricod Science 12cm fans, and that'll be them.

So is the low speed or the medium speed on a fan controller better, so it can be tuned or is it not worth paying the extra for the mediums + speed controller?

You got that right. Compared them side by side with my Silenx Xtrema Pros tonight. At 32dba compared to the claimed 14dba of Silenx they are actually quieter. If you hold them up to your ear at all angles the Silenx is definitely louder.

    14dba? B.S.

That would make the Yate 10dba. =P

As for cooling and airflow both are pretty much the same. Same temps across the board. Yates are quieter for sure though. The Yate UVs are gorgeous too. Really nice brilliant blue.

Do they have 50mm or 60mm?
