forgot to mention, i was using ABIT second offical BIOS version 1.1

    BIOS: m612a11.zip downloaded from:

    http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/uk/down...s/download.gif

although it was unstable before the bios update and i never tested the ram at over 2v before i flashed the BIOS.

I was excited with this board. It is new and I'm sure Abit will release more info (bios) on this. I'll just wait till it matures a bit more. Hopefully by the 2nd Half of the year, planned upgrade, there will be this and at least couple more boards floating around.

    U've been big help PV!

    Thxs FLMJIGGY!

what seems to kill the mb is apparently the weakness of the nb itself when overclocking using the onboard video!

Thanks for the honest answer. I thought that may be why you have not posted any results.

I am sure glad no one had any of these when I was hot to get one.

    Yes!
Using the onboard video while overclocking is in my opinion rather "dangerous" ,the nb seems very weak in this condition!
Most reports of dead f-i90hd were in this situation...
I anticipated from the beginning by using an old nvidia tnt PCI because of this issue...

    second board failing

ok im on my second board now and i had problems with it from the start. The first OS i tried to install was win XP x64. during the installation the screen would go black for about 5 seconds on about 3 occasions but it did finish installing. then on the first boot after the windows scrolling time bar, just when you should get the welcome or log in screen the system would hang with a black screen.

i tried installing several times with XP64 with many different bios settings, but i got the same result. so then i tried XP 32 SP1 and it worked ok with only one crash so far while using super_PI and watching a movie at the same time. today though it failed Prime 95 overnight.

now lots of programms fail, even firefox but its not failed yet while writing this.

ive tryed many different memory tests and the all come back fine. even the memtest you get with kubuntu worked fine 100% pass. althought Kubuntu and Ubuntu would not install.

im worried that my second board will fail too, im not using onboard GFX this time its x850xt and the RAM is geil not OCZ, but it looks like my second f-i90hd is on the way out.

the 512mb version memory passes the chipset test(im using the 2x1gb version of the geil GX21GB6400DC)

    http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonxp...sk/memory.html

so i really dont think its the memory this time.

it has crashed once while tring to post this.

mmm maybe the board is just a Pile'o'e.

ok, now things are very strange. the board kept crashing after about 30 seconds in XP. Then it refused to load XP at all, and everytime it would run chkdsk reboot, then freeze just before XP finished loading.

so i tryed installing XP on a different HD and it would not complete, saying that files were missing off the XP cd.

So i tryed one stick of RAM and got the same results. Tried Memtest86 v1.65 and it gave me 100s of memory errors. So i put back both sticks of RAM and ran memtest86 again no errors at all.....wtf is going on....

i talk to you now because after the last memtest i tried to install XP one last time and it worked without asking for missing files and without crashing (so Far)

this board is like jaclye and hyde. Its not the HD, or the Mem,

one interesting thing is that Ubuntu reports "boot I/O error" and refuses to load.

anyone got any ideas what is causing these computer fits.

Are you using IDE HD, because it is necessary to put the master HD at the end of the IDE cable. if not install will fail!
I experienced this the last time I uses IDE HD on this mb...
If you are using sata drive, i would suspect memory issue.

    thanks for the reply

no there all sataii drives as native ide in BIOS. i dont think its a memory issue as the memory has passed the chipset tests. and 100% in memtest86 in linux boot menu. + the board ran fine with no problems for a few days on the exact the same setup. this is similar to what happened with my last board ok for a few days then would not work. And now its running OK with the same RAM as before. I think there is something wrong with all the boards and only certain hardware and software bring out the faults.

have you tried Prime95 ? if so how long for?

i'd buy this board from newegg or some other place but i dont really need to go thru all the trouble when the board is just going to die.

wtf is wrong with abit ?
do they really expect to keep their heads above water ?

the Quad GT is the only board that ha proven itself to the OC community.
the 975 board is nothing special, infact ive seen plenty of low end baords do what it does.

boy they better get their collective heads out of their rear ends

Just when I thought they had gotten their act together with the Nview. Thought it was the "beginning" of something...

it could also be that ppl are pushing it too much. It's really meant as an HTPC and not an OCer.

i am thinking about picking one up, probably will wait a few weeks and see if conditions improve.

This IS the only mATX board with any decent o/c options. For me, im more interested in power consumption and the HDMI port looks niice for my HTPC.
