A 4 pin molex is normally to feed a SLI or Crosffire (not obligatory into individual)

I also doubt that its anything to do with our power supply - the vcore is "isolated" from the 12V system by the PWM section - any droop in the 12V feed will be buffered by the electrolytic caps that feel this circuit.

All in all this is quite a puzzle - kinda want my board back now just to see if it suffers the same problem!

Imagine that in a case with stock cooling on the 1900... otherwise its still like that, i have the extra cooling of the nbsink cooling my pwm, so that explains my low temps.

I want to note, i was wrong, they never climb over 55c.. not 65c like i originally said.

Im also on the 50's and lower with stock cooler except that i replaced the TP with AS5 on the NB and replaced the PWM paste with Zalman thermal paste , i also removed everything under the heat sink so the Zalman paste on the PWM is making 100% contact to heatsink, same for the NB

I have just measured different the tensions before making my vmods (Vddr and Vmch)

I have (with 8800 GTS stock fréquency) :

Vmch : 1.4v bios = 1.537v réal
Vddr 2.3v bios = 2.36v réal
Vcore 1.3575v bios = 1.433v réal
Vtt 1.4v bios = 1.51v réal

I mesure with multimeter (I have in the bios there are the tensions of posted , they are not similar)

did some voltage measurements on my quad today.

to make it short :
vdroop on the quad is almost double the droop on my aw9d-max:
eg. 1,388 drops to 1,377 during load on the aw9d-max but 1,370 drops to 1,350 on the quad. same picture a few notches higher, where 1,457 drops to 1,444 on the aw9d-max but 1,450 drops to 1,426 on the quad.

did this with the same processor (e6400), memory (mushkin xp2-6400), vga (x1950xt) but two different psu's (600W/650W seasonic M12). my dmm was calibrated some weeks ago and should read reliable and accurate.

about 80ampere (at least in the 1,55v range, didn't look at this all time) were shown in bios running through the vrm and about 28ampere were shown in ati tool for the gpu during load times.

another interesting point is the effect of gpu load on vcore droop. while on my aw9d-max vcore drooped a little more when i started the 3d window or artifact scanning in ati tools while orthos was running, there was a totally reverse effect on the quad. putting load on the gpu, vcore raised again compensating part of the vcore droop created from orthos.

another finding was, that higher clocks lead to higher vdroop! well, this was not completely unexpected but i never looked at this before.

vcore measurements were done with two different fsb settings. all the way for 266MHz and starting from 1.5475v upwards for 450MHz. i could have done some more samples a bit lower at 450MHz, but i have not yet figured out what voltage my cpu will need to run this speed. don't think it makes too much sense either, as running high clocks usually needs higher voltages.

here are the details:






i measured all voltages directly at the corresponding mosfet outputs. the two exceptions are vcore, which was measured at the capacitors near the cpu socket and vddr2 which was measured directly on the ddr2 socket at the back of the motherboard. as i already mentioned in another post, you have to measure vddr2 directly at the ddr2 socket. measuring on the mosfet or even on the coil near by shows slightly higher readings.

well guys i finally got mine to do something besides run a little oc, it took some seriouse vtt and vmch voltage boost to do anything over 430 fsb, unfortunatly i am still having problems with getting the ram stable at anything towards 500mhz even my cellshock that should do 4-4-4-12 500mhz stock (ddr2 1000)

anyways i got my 6600 uo to 500x8 running ram 1:1, tried everything i could to get the ram stable but a no go and it would fail memtest everytime, took the oc back to 445x9 with ram 4-4-3-4 and it is perfectly happy

i also took off the NB cooler and removed the thermal pads from the NB and the PWM area and put as5 on it and trimmed the mounts on the PWM area so it would all sit nice and flush, temps for the pwm get to about the high 40's when under load, pretty good i guess

I just got this board with a 6300 b2 and haven't had a chance to really do any real ocing but at stock voltages and stock hsf I am at 388fsb mem 1:1 4-3-3-8 2.1v and my vcore only fluctuates between 1.32 & 1.31, also the hottest of the 5 pwm's gets to 50max others about 44-47. Will find out more when I get a new hsf as I don't like to push temp over 45. So far I am happy with this board. Voltage droop is much better than my Asus board.

I set in the bios 1.555v but the uguru show me 1.53v idle 1.51v load vcore, Is that real or not? If I know the vdroop is not more than 0.01v in the QuadGT, It would be great to know whats the vcore real (the read point is not reachable for me because of the vapo's evap.) thx

vdroop is more like 0.025v on the quad. thats at least what i measured on my quad. see post #531 in this thread.

my quad gt lived for 2 days...
one of the digital powers was always 80c in addition the rest 45c
plus that, at full load it made a buzzing sound for one day .
After that FLAMES......

those digital PWMs run incredibly hot. You need to separate the cooling system. Rip out the heatpipe clean both the pwm sinks and the nb sinks. Epozy additional heatsink onto them and stick a fan in front of them.

I will be setting up my new system tonight, mainly to see if all my hardware works that I have ordered. In order to save myself some grief I just wanted some advice from the veterans working with this board.

This is the gear I plan to setup tonight:

Abit Quad GT
Xeon 3060 (Tuniq Tower)
2gig Crucial Ballistix Tracer 8000
OCZ GameXstream 700w
1 WD Raptor (WD1500ADFD) will put my other in RAID once we have a working final bios!
EVGA 8800 GTS 640mb
IDE Rom drive
Win XP Pro (for now)

So from what I have read this should be do-able with the original bios, one SATA drive and load Windows from IDE cd-rom? It looks like I will have to load up the Jmicron RAID drivers, is this correct? Do I also have to install the Intel via F6 command?

I assume I would have to load these from a floppy (which I have) but I looked at the Jmicron RAID driver and it looked like it was a 3 meg download.

If anyone could point me to the newest Jmicron driver I need and the Intel that would help alot too. That way I can make the floppies here at work before I head home

Any other suggestions, things to watch out for would be helpful.

As I said my intentions tonight are to just get things running and get baselines for the system before I jump into Vista/RAID and overclocking my system.

You need the RAID drivers only if you are going to be running a RAID. If you don't plan on RAIDing use the AHCI drivers. you can get the latest JMicron drivers and unzip them to a temp location and copying the contents of the Floppy32 folder to a formated blank floppy. Make sure you go into the Floppy32 and select all the files and then copy them to the root of the floppy and not just dump the folder onto it. that floppy will have the RAID and the AHCI drivers. so choose raid only if you are RAIDING. Also get the latest intel drivers, they package it nicely so the app they provide makes you a floppy. You will need 2 floppy's you can't use one for both of em. I Highly recommend the latest Beta bios to avoid problems that have been fixed. REMEMBER BETA IS JUST A LABEL . This is my favorite board of all time so it will be fun to use.
