I am getting this board on Wednesday, I can see if putting a Noctua NC-U6 on the northbridge will help

if buying this board think twice about using OCZ2p8002gk as i think it has corrupted my BIOS am waiting on an email from Abit with a solution. Can only boot up now with one stick of RAM.

you didn't understand what i meaned!
i did not try to correct any fault, so keep it easy!
i only say that memory can't corrupt bios data but only corrupt bios display....

OCZ2p8002gkm, that’s not the Rev2 kit is it? I heard that the rev 1 kits had some problems working on a couple boards, look like this board will get added to the list. You might try getting a Rev.2 kit as it has much better compatibly.

Hopefully I be ok (I bought a Rev. 2 kit for this board).

sorry pvhk im just pissed off that my new board aint working.

anyhow, yes mine is the older rev 1. i contacted abit and they told me to up the voltage, so i did and now it wont reboot at all. looks like the bios has been corrupted now and im going to need my PLCC reprogrammed. Abit said to test with my new geil value mem when it arrives, and if that does'nt work then changing the PLCC BIOS is the only way without RMAing the whole board.

4300 is more expensive and consumes more power than a X2 65nm and the Amd 690G chipset is way better. Amd chips undervolt lower and scale better in terms of power consumption when on CnQ compared to an Intel on EIST. You don't need more than K8 dual core anyway for htpc use when on a good chipset even when running 1080P. Better to address noise, heat and cost.

AMD 690G is the HTCP chipset and the X2 3600+ is the budget chip atm. Here in Sweden you can get both a 890G board and a X2 3600+ for the price ONE of 4300!!!

FUGGER, did something happen to the board that you cannot use it? Was it DOA? I keep checking and time keeps rolling along.

    i know AMD is cheaper.
i know their chipsets use less power.
what iam not sure about -since i seen reviews sayin different things regarding this issue- is if a E4300 really needs more power than a AMD EE?

Well I have this board running at a nice 334mhz at the moment (CPU at 3ghz) I need to persuade the CPU to go a little further but board is handling it all very well very pleased so far. With the improved cooling I thwacked the northbridge up to maxed volts and it has not complained.

My F-I90HD just died, many over at hardforum are reporting the same problem! Beware, this may be the modified bios killing it.

which bios were u using? the one by wicked or by wildgunman? if u used the one from wicked posted by sleepeeg then so iam not surprised, since it wasnt even zipped with winrar or sumthin. i hope u know that downloadin an unzipped modified bios is risky since slight changes caused by downloading process can have a huge impact. u should use wildgunsmans bios instead. besides this downloading issue i dont see any connection between these cases of dead boards and a modded bios since all it does is unlocking hidden features.

New BIOS chip sent out by ABIT

Tested New replacement plcc bios chip. board still dead.

Im soo frustraited and pissed off by the fact that ABIT can'nt be bothered to test the boards before they ship them. Im going to have lost about £40 ($80) in this. Delivery out £8 delivery back £8 + the exrta money spent on replacing my memory.

    Im so pissed off.

    I understand your frustration!
so something else died on your board!
What is very strange is the fact that one of your stick also died?

Hey genius, if bits changed due to downloading, the .zip file would not open. Furthermore, Winflash would not recognize it as a valid bios. Know what you are talking about, before speaking.

Meaker, no one has reported a dead board due to the bios. I am now using the bios on my board and it is working fine. pengizzle is right on one account and that's all the bios does is unlock hidden features. Nothing fundamentally changed. The only thing MODBIN does is flip a 1 to a 0 in the bios.

People's board are most likely dying due to people failing to electrically ground themselves or RAM incompatibilities. At the least, touch the back of the PSU before installing. It's going to happen with every board out there.

Mine died after rebooting and since all my componants are working in the old P5B-VM, its the board

Who knows, maybe there is a reason these options are disabled? I did not know at the time, but people with the stock bios have also had trouble but I thought I might point out the POSSIBLE risk.

mine also died without any pysical contact!!!! I was told by the ABIT technition to up the votage of the RAM to 2.1v to make it run stable and in dual channel mode. I rebooted and the POST screen (not the FATAL1TY LOGO) whent garbbled and then the board was dead.

intersting to see if others with dead boards have the DDR voltage above 2v.
