IC7 255MHz fsb 1:1 barrier IS finally "broken".......

Yes you just read it well.........I tried the new beta bios from ABIT and it FINALLY solves the issue (bug) of the 255MHz and 1:1 barrier........

I do not know (informed) of other fixes or so, BUT the 255MHz fsb 1:1 burrier is…HISTORY………

    This bios is the “IC7_17.B01”
I was so anxious to test it cos I had it from last night and the computer with the ABIT IC7 is at my work…so today noon (now it’s 4.09a.m. here in Greece) I finally test it…
To tell you the truth I didn’t believe that it would solve this issue BUT it DID…
Changes except the “issue 255MHz 1:1” fixing is not known yet…
The Vmem (Vdim) is once again maxed out at 2.8Volts for those who can’t or don’t want to Modd the Mobo….
Overall stability and Overclockability is kept high as it was with the previous bioses too….
I finally can run my Rams at 1:1 CPU: RAM over 255MHz fsb…
    My Rams are 2 x 256MB Kingston Value Ram PC2700 (DDR333) with Winbond BH-6 chips on board…They can do more than 255MHz(510MHz DDR) at Cas 2 – 5 – 2 – 2 and they FINALLY DID on ABIT IC7 Mobo…
I have test them with my EPOX 4PCA3+ Mobo and they did 260MHz(520MHz DDR)…
Now…after I reach the 255MHz fsb 1:1 barrier and test them with Memtest-86 and Memtest (Windows based proggy), I go into bios and “pick” 256MHz fsb…save and exit…I was praying to continue from 256/ stop and…it DID…WOW, I said, now we are in a “good road”(as we say here in Greece)…
Not to mention a lot, I was capable of doing 263MHz(526MHz DDR) out of my Rams…Error free is 260MHz(520MHz DDR) with ABIT IC7 Mobo and 254MHz(508MHz DDR) with my EPOX 4PCA3+ Mobo with Cas 2 – 5 – 2 – 2 and DON’T ask about Vmem for them…
On IC7 I have: Street Racer, Enhanced, 6 Clocks, Enable, Enable…
The Memory Bandwidth CAN’T be “touched” by ANY other Mobo out there…
I did't test them yet for more cos I'm only intrested for the Cas 2 - 5 - 2 - 2 timings...I'll do it tommorow with more "gay" timings...
Also the MAX fsb has improved from 326MHz with previous bioses to 340MHz with this beta one…The Overall Overclockability and stability is the same…
The new released IC7_17.BIN bios will be given to public in about a week or so…
Tomorrow I’ll post screenies for you……

Not yet M8.....Problems with the Prommie keeps me out.......The best it did so far was 4260MHz......I'll try this weekend after fixing and calibrating my Prommie.......

As for the Memory Bandwidth........you'll see how it does ......SOON........

You are the KING of memory bandwidth, I know that. God knows what will happen if you add the caps to the bottom of that IC7. Good luck on the cal.

When I get my P4C800-E Monday, I'm going to flash to the newest bios, and as soon as I get the IC7 1.7b bios or the officialone I'm going to post side by side charts, with same cpu and OCZ4000-El Gold.
I'll use a 2.4C I have that can do 3.6 on air easy.

I can confirm that this new bios fixes the 255 issue. I am running 272 1:1 with no boot problems at all.

There is some rumour that the 1.7 beta bios really screws 5:4 bandwidth. I have not yet tested this, but can anyone comfirm?

    Just release the Stupid bios.
Since when has there ever been an N.D.A. for a bios tester Never.
    This is fairly pathetic.
Like why the hell do i want to hear about something i cant use.
Besides bioses always work good for some and bad for others it all depends on the config and the periphrials and mem-cpu that are used.
Ones person's gold is another person's worst nightmare.

hipro, I'm glad you got the bios. I told Market to give it to you cause I know you can push the board to it's max.

I'm using this bios as well with my IC7 and xms3500 (BH5). My 2.4c max's out at 265 fsb and using the 5/4 ratio. So I can't tell if there's any overclocking issues with the 5/4 ratio because of my 265fsb limit. This bios works ok for me and my setup.

At 255MHz Ram frequency , I use 3.3Vmem......At 263MHz Ram frequency , I use 3.45Vmem........Those old Rams are doing good BUT with high Vmem.......To be honest with you I didn't tried yet to test them with "losen" timings such as Cas 2.5 - 8 - 4 - 4 to see how they are doing......I ALWAYS liked "tight" timings such as Cas 2 - 5 - 2 - 2....Unfortunately one stick is a lot better than the other one....One stick is maxed out at about 271MHz with Cas 2 - 5 - 2 - 2 but the other one is maxed out at 260MHz with the same timings......I can't find a good one to "pair" them together.......Nowadays Rams are good ONLY with "losen" timings such as Cas 3 - 8 - 4 - 4 which I don't realy like.......

Thanks M8.......I'll do my best......but I have TOO little time to test it(a lot of work)...........With a "quik" view at 260MHz 1:1 , I have a Memory Bandwidth of about 6600MB/s on S-Sandra.......Yes the 5:4 divider is limited at about 295MHz fsb.....I think today I'll post some screenies and I would like a "fast" ASUS P4C800 or P4P800 to post here so as to compair at the SAME frequencies........

    Nice one Hipro5...

This bios really helps as i have now made my mind on what sort of ram i will get since the 255fsb barrier is broken...I am going for 1:1 capable ram

    Keep it up as always

In regards to my earlier comment, this rumour is false. I tested at 200/200 and 250/200. Here are the results:

    200/200 unbuffered 2379/2439
    250/200 unbuffered 2495/2483

Seems that the 5:4 ratio does not degrade performance.
