Ah, I know why it is, a fellow overclocker said it was because I'm using 4 Dimms in my mobo. More voltage due to on die memorycontroller.

Yes, that may be the possible reason!

Since I'm not familiar with X2 overclocking, somebody mentioned dropping the Vcore, since it sometimes even with a lot of Vcore nothing changes. And behold lol, I'm priming now at 1.5v same speed.

Ok, I see. I'm only running 2 PC4000 1gig sticks, having 2GB in all, see below, but not running at 540mhz now, that made it all go bananas , but anyways all in all I learned something new today too

I tried volting mine up to 1.5 now and tuning it up to 2.85 ghz, but it all went blue on me, one of those fancy bluescreens, so I didn't bother, had to turn it down to 2.7 again

Yesterday I tried 3000Mhz with 1.5V. There was an error after 5 minutes. I'll check more today.

Mine went blue on me after like ten minutes of use.... I ran two instances of prime95, one on each core, core 0 is much stronger than core 1, så I think that core 1 is capable of a much higher overclock than 2.7ghz, but core 0 keeps slowing the down, I've tried water, and it's no better than my 828grams coppercooler

I have only two dimms of pc4000 on my mobo, and any voltage above 1.4/1.45 makes absolutely no sense here, it's the chip or something else that is stopping the clock. Like I said... core 0 is stronger than core 1 clockwise... or it doesen't get that hot as the other, but that's impossible to measure.

Mine could easily have been boxed as a 4600+ or a 5200+ as it now runs on 5300+ speed

    Hi all,

Im trying to help out a friend of mine.
    He has the following setup:

    Asus A8N-VM
    AMD Athlon 4200+ X2
    4 x 512MB PC3200 Kingston ValueRAM
    Asus Geforce 8800GTS
    Super Flower 500 Watts PSU

Im trying to OC his proc because as you can see its obviously holding back the 8800GTS.
Thing is..when i look into his BIOS, i can not change anything except for the FSB speed.
I want to avoid doing this because he has stock memory modules and wanted to try changing the multiplier instead.
But i can not find it anywhere...

Does anyone here have any idea on how to do this and is there a custom BIOS for this motherboard somewhere maybe?

    TIA.

Even if you did find the multiplier it wouldn't do you any good with overclocking the CPU, since it is only the FX-CPU's that have all multipliers unlocked. In all the others the multiplier is unlocked downwards from the stock. So lowering the ram-divider, raising voltages on cpu just a notch and raising FSB is you best option here

Unfortunately not I don't know why. Once it ran 16 Minutes with 1.500V, then only 2 minutes with 1.525V. Oo ??

Well sure thats the other alternative.

Thing is i only get to see a Set FSB option if i put the Jumperfree Configuration on manual. No RAM speed, no divider, no nothing.

    Any ideas?

May be that some other bios is fixing the problem? Or that the MB stinks oc'ing? No, from gun to revolver, try going to asus online and check if there is another, maybe newer bios... but once in a while the oldest bios is the best, but I believe most mb's are shipped with the rev0 or rev1 ... may be wrong there though..

Well i know he bought it at work (switching from his Asrock to Asus with PCI-e wanting to buy the 8800GTS).
Sounds like it could def be an old BIOS seeing as i even think we got it swapped for another RMA board a while back.

I will try to update the BIOS, but in case there is no success, any idea where i might find a modded BIOS for this? (Like some A8N-E BIOS customised to work on the A8N-VM or something?).

Don't seem like there's an option here though.... It may be like my ASUS A8R-MVP, that didn't support any northbridge voltage increasment, because of some rotten power circuits on the board. It may be that your friend either is forced to change mb or to voltmod it, I don't know, but that was one of the threads (link above) popping up when I searched this forum.

Dude, i got CoreTemp for that and not Everest.

One core is getting 10-11° hotter than the other, but the colder one strikes ... even with 1.55V.

BIOS is the latest one from dfi.com.tw and the NB can do easily 300Mhz, even 350Mhz. So that shouldn't be the bottleneck.

whats up with these ASUS m2n mobos and the massive difference in the vcore selected in bios VS the vcore displayed in cpu-z? also, i see that its better to NOT USE teh 100mV offset unless you need to go over 1.6v, correct?

and lastly, what temp readings should i trust? those reported by the ITE chip on the mobo or the ones reported by the amd core sensors?

thanks all. trying to OC my first AM2, and the intial differences are.... unnerving

relatively true is coretemp, delta T is correct afaik, but the values not. And ITE is as it is bull ...

the core sensors are not really calibrated.
