Thread: New 8 into 1 Outlet Waterblock :-)

    New 8 into 1 Outlet Waterblock :-)

    My new camera arrived so I thought I would post a few
    pics of this new waterblock I have been working on for
    the last few weeks. I have made 3-4 different tops for it
    now and decided on the one seen in below pics.(sorry to
    the Delrin and non Acrylic Plexi fans :-P ) It is
    ~95% done, all thats left is for the 21 holed jet impingement
    plate to be fitted to the cylinder on the inner side of the top
    of the block...and a final rub down with 1200 and a polish...anywayz,
    here ya go people ma new block-->

    The base has 121 4mm long 1mmx1mm square 'pins'

    Tools/Machinery Used

    Bench Drill
    Dremel Roatary Tool and bitz
    mini Bandsaw
    sander

    Materials Used

    6mm copper bar stock $AU5
    10mm Acrylic Perspex $off cutz free from bin
    Old Car inner tube tyre $for gasket dug out of dumpster at local Servo
    2xbras 1/2inch fittings $AU2.75

    cost ~$US7.80 all up :-P

    I know someone will ask, so before they do NO I wont be
    'testing' this block against a range of other off the shelf blocks.

    I will post delta temps of its performance in my rig when it is hooked
    up compared to the current Dangerden RBX775 based
    block i'm using at present...end of story :-)

    I hope to have it fitted in the pc before the weekend, getting the
    impingement plate correct is giving me grief, 21 tiny holes positioned
    directly above the '+' section of the pins is tricky by hand hehe...

    Shall report back when the block has been tested with performance
    results on my E6600 and some final pics of the polished block :-)

    Looks like you put a metric ton of work into that, well done.

    Only thing i could say is its obvious one side of the 8 jets will have more pressure than the others, itl be important to line that up properly with a core.

    Otherwise, i await the results!

    Think you might have the workings of it incorrect there mate ... the centre is the inlet
    it will have a plate in the cylinder like-->



    Excuse the shockin PhotoChop effort LoL... the water will pass
    through these holes and hit the '+' section of the channels in the copper base, the water then flows to the outer 'ring' and up through one of the 8 outlet holes to the next level of the block, it then exists out the 1/2 inch outlet :-) I think you thought the inlet was going through the 8 holes ? It don't hehe.. Hope that clears it up anywayz... apologies if I got it ass about wouldn't be first time LOL

    Cheers for the comments will have impingement plate, mounting bracket and some

    Cheers for the support fellas...

    I didn't keep count of how many hours I put into this particular block, my older
    design blocks I can knock out in 2 hours from start to finish, I would say 4 hours for this one from go to finish if i did it all in one hit...which I didnt in this particular case, as mentioned i made 2 or 4 different designed tops until i was happy with what is seen above ( i did make a black one to just quietly :-P )
    As it is an original and new design for me It was a bit of "make it up as you go" I don't plan or draw out my designs before hand I had the 8 into 1 idea and ran with it :-)

    Wow lovely, always impressed by your block work - some great work on the plexi glass though as that must be a pain to shape with a nice finish.

    would love to have that ability - first thing I would design would be a north bridge block to make it fit my RD600 perfectly and to be as least restrictive as I could get ala MCW30.

    If it ain't watercooled, I don't wanna know.

    How fast did that dremel cut through the copper? I meant like, how long did the base take you?

    Took about 30 minutes to do the channels with the dremel.

    For blocks to be that precise without the use a milling machine is some serious handy work, I'm gob smacked. Looks like something you would buy from a batch producer....

    Yeah dremels are great tools and they whip through copper/alu easy as pie when you have the right bit and a good quality dremel. Doesn't even have to be a dremel, bosch make good multi tools too.

    Bah, I'll get a Black and Decker, no $$$ Just to tell everyone by the time I resume my block manufacturing I'll be using REAL tools not some crap I bought for 50 bucks YAY!

    HAHAHA don't buy Black And Decker then

    'REAL' Tools cost more than you can afford lil fella... Industrial quality/strength tools are not cheap, and I fail to see the point of paying quadruple for a machine that will be used a dozen times a year if that in some cases...if you make a living with tools by all means buy quality, for the 'hobbisit' the lesser brands are more than adequate.

    Um, how much did your dremel cost? It didn't pass the 100 dollar mark right? Oh and could you please list all those attachments you used? As in the names? I need to go shopping saturday
    Well my budget isn't that tight, I did some calculations and stuff, and I think one that isn't TOO cheap is affordable. ROFL that black and decker was only 30 bucks with free shipping off home depot It appears that someone bought that very one and was using it for a case mod

    Hey how did you make the sides of the top clear and shiny? Did you use acetone or something and polish?

    Probably some abrasive like you get with some lapping kits. I got some of this chemco stuff, which comes in a pink tub which isn't the finest but I used it to buff out the marks on some of my waterblocks.

    My maze5 is on so tight I get the ATi logo impressed into the copper. You do get a pot of abrasive polish which is quite fine with dremels. The one I got is a burgendy red kinda colour.

    lol did you know sandpaper and abrasive stuff makes acrylic CLOUDY? I think he did that then threw some acetone or MEK on it. Thats basically what some plastic glues are, Acetone, MEK.

    Sorry, thought you was on about the copper and sand paper / abrasive materials do not make acrylic go cloudy. Used it loads of time and always smoothed it off with wet n' dry and then finalised with some fine wire wool.

    Look in the case mod section for people who use plexi and they always file it down after cutting it.

    Edit: but the stuff that his blocks are using is more brittle than anything I ever worked with, so who knows
