Dead spot is pretty big, so as long as you space it out some, it should be fine.

cut them off, but besides that no.

or de-solder them from the little pcb's.

You can probably solder across them too, so the electricity takes the path of least resistance, meaning the LEDs shouldn't light.

change them for quieter fans or more cfm? if you want more cooling i would suggest cutting away the grill since no matter what fans you put in there the grill will still be holding them back. or you could just jimmy a mount for a standalone fan.

as for removing the fans i'm not sure if the tabs holding the fans are removable and well.. i'm too lazy to open up my pc case..

edit: found this pic doesn't look too promising without bending the tabs.

It looks possible, if you take the screws off of the left bracket it might come out, letting the fan slide out horizontally under the tabs (if that makes sense)

I really don't see a point to this product with that grill.. rubber bands and 2x60mm fans ftw

Finally got tired of waiting for more reviews and purchased this. I'm sorely disappointed. The thing is noiser than both the antec solution and my previous Corsair Dominator fans. The mounting solution was not as secure as the Corsair Dominator fan. I'd suggest reworking it to a similar springy clamp manner in which CD did theirs.

The noise could only be alleviated by severely undervolting the them to the point where barely any air is pushed.

However, the biggest deal breaker for me is that they will not fit over Corsair Dominator ram sticks. You're basically looking at using only naked sticks or those with simple heat spreaders that don't have much of a vertical profile.

The only positive thing I can say is that it fulfills the bling value.

In the future I suggest that OCZ:

1) improve the mounting mechanism (needs less give)
2) raise the vertical clearance (let's face it, corsair owns the enthusiast RAM market and not giving enough clearance for Dominator's will cut down on your user base)
3) either increase the size of the fans to 80mm or get thicker 60mm fans so that these things can push some air at lower noise levels
4) improve airflow through the grill. The grill is too close, resulting in turbulence (more noise) and creating deadspots .

You guys have been innovative in the past. I think this first version is a miss, but if you can work on those 4 things, I have confidence OCZ can make a sure fire hit.

Either will be fine, but my preference is for the corsair dominator fan since it doesn't interfere with all of my water cooling tubes (I run 2 loops with 2 pumps, 2 res, 5 water blocks and 3 radiators = lots of tubing). The good thing about the Cool Spot is that you can always reuse it for something else in case something else needs cooling in the future. Both offer similar performance and noise levels on both are very similar.

In the end I went with the CD fan.

The newer units have longer brackets to fit over the Flex XLC heatspreaders and the Reaper HPC units.

ranker there are adequate reviews here and online on everything you said about the ocz so you really should have known that they wouldn't fit and how loud they are is really is up to the case, ambient, hearer, etc so a review can only do so much there (listing dba). i can't hear mine over my 8800gtx fan @80% but my closed case is under my desk so that helps a bit.

did you try using the divided bracket legs and tightening only 1 screw then the other once it's on?

i agree with you that the grill and fans are limiting but aside from the noise you encountered you don't need alot of air for ram unless you volting to 2.8~ then i would jimmy a mount for stand alone fan.

ocz could have done better but it's quite reasonable for the 20$ i paid for it. it's good for someone using a stable 24/7 oc, maybe not someone benching, maxing out their ram. that's my opinion on them anyway

I agree there were plenty of reviews out there. Call it what you may, but I got where I am in life now by seeing things for myself personally rather than relying on others all the time =)

Anyhow, I have money to throw around so $20 was just a drop in the bucket for me. If you take a look at my sig, my system is a high end system that focuses on overclocking as well as silence. When I put my system through intensive benching, gaming, folding, I program my mCubed balancer to let the fans rip for maximum performance. When I'm doing every day work, I prefer a totally silent system, which is what I have. My computer center is located at the back end of my home theater room. Any sound will be reflected upon the materials of the wall. Granted most of you who air cool will only barely notice the sound of the fans, but I'm an audiophile that can hear a pin drop in my room and prefer a dead silent system.

If I was still in college and on a budget, I'd have spent the $20 on either the Corsair Dominator Fan for its performance and ease of installation or the Antec Coolspot for its versatility. The OCZ product only has one edge on the other two and that's only for bling. It trails all the others in everything from static pressure, cfm, noise, and ease of installation. There's really no advantage for the OCZ for an informed buyer other than the bling value that the LED's bring.

I ended up throwing it on an older computer just to put it to use. Hopefully OCZ can put out a better product with the next revision: 1) Bigger fan, lower speed = more CFM @ less noise 2) reduce turbulence with a less restrictive grill 3) mimic Corsair's mounting mechanism.

It sure looks like this OCZ cooler would interfere with some video cards. Did you have any problems installing your video card with this cooler and do you have a picture with it installed?

That's why they provide a normal screw as well instead of a thumb one.

Is it possible to install a 60x60x15mm fan in it?

I know the fans are removable and that the coolers height is about 23mm, but I don't know if there are any connectors that need space or any other things. Also, I don't know how the two fans are powered by one cable.

EDIT: Forget I asked anything! 23mm is the height dimension with brackets. I guess that concludes that no fan bigger than 60x60x10mm will fit there.

Yes it will fit if you use the little screw & it will be very close to your video card if you have any 8800 series.
