I could use a little help here...

This is my first Intel setup since the 486DX266, so I could use a little help getting going in the right direction as to how to OC this bear...

    See sig for system basics.

Currently running the CPU @ 3.6G (1.8 ref) 8x multi RAM is 1100 5-5-5-18 -2T Vcore 1.48 Vmem 2.2 (like I have any idea what I'm doing coming off AMDs...)

    edit: P25 BIOS

Any help getting started would be greatly appreciated!

recieved my EVGA board from post office today.
my first impression was WOW the amout of stuff that comes included with this board rivals best dfi days. too bad the web-shop from witch i ordered my evga mobo had forgot to include SLI-bridge and chipset fan with the box.
wish i had my E6600 in the mailbox tomorrow so that i whould be able to start to assamble my watercooling rig... fingers crossed

Anyone else having reliability issues with this board? My first one lasted about a month, during that time it fried a stick of Corsair Dominator 1250, so I rma'd the ram and all was good, then the mobo died. -- was all the onboard lcd would display, so I rma the mobo, the replacement lasted 1 hour. I was surfing the web when Windows locked up, upon reboot I got the -- lcd display again and the board wont fire up. So now I'm awaiting my rma's rma.

I know this can't be an isolated incident, hopefully the third time is a charm!

I'm sorry to hear about your problems Aurora, that really stinks! I've been very fortunete with my board, I bought it at newegg back in late November and I've had zero problems! I started out with P20, P23, and just recenlty switched to the P25 BIOS and I continue to have no problems (knock on wood)! So your waiting for your third board?

I have a feeling you guys all already know this but eVGA is offering free cross-shipped replacments for people suffering from the low FSB speed when using Intel's Quad Core kentsfield processors! As you also probably know many Quad Core Kentsfield users are not able to get past about 1400Mhz on the FSB (350Mhz x 4) no matter what they do. Well I guess this new board is capable of upwards of 450Mhz (I've only read about this so I don't know first hand)?

My replacment has already been shipped out and is scheduled to be deliverd on Wednesday, can't wait! I have used eVGA hardware for a very long time and although their hardware is decent it's their customer service that really shines! If anyone wants more info on this you can check out eVGA website or you can also PM me and I'll give you a link to the correct part of the site.

    Vranichou,
I must admit that your doing a pretty decent job so far although there is always room for improvment! Since your off to a great start do you have any specific questions? It might be easier to help you out if you asked some specific questions, then we can take it from there!

    Solarfall,
That really stinks man, was your board sealed up when you got it? The place you got it from must have opened the board up and taken the missing stuff? Although I think there are a couple different eVGA 680i models available at different prices (although their all the same board). It's just that the cheaper boards come with less cables, shorter warreny, and cost less. Maybe that is what you got instead of the regular board?

Yep, third motherboard is on it's way to me. I'm starting to wonder if maybe something else is wrong, but the techs at EVGA tell me the -- code means failure to initialize, and that it could only be the board. Everything else in the build works fine.

Yeah I can't believe you have just been unlucky three times, that is crazy? What are you running for a PSU? It must be alright given the hardware your running, usually people with hardware like that don't skimp on the PSU, lol!

So that is obviously not the issue? Do you think that you just got unlucky with these boards or do you think it might be something else? From your system specs and from what you have posted already it sounds like you have just been unlucky!

I don't know what else it could be, everything else works fine! Hopefully it was just poor luck, if the third one dies I'll be moving on to something else. (probably a Bad Axe 2)

ok finally last friday got the missing stuff from the web-shop were i ordered my EVGA, even got some free stuff, oh joy.

ok for the past week i've really been testing oc:ing options and of course torturing my new e6600 with this mobo and i got to say that i'm amazed how good this mobo is, when considering that my last mobo was DFI expert. all different voltage options are a real treat. unlinked memory option is really neat idea and works great.

i have a question: what purpose does this link boost option has, does it improve vga cards ocing potential or does it help with stability or what's the deal with this option?.

Main purpose is to increase gfx oc potential...

I don't think so...If you don't need it then don't use it. Just one more thing the system has to contend with. Normally I adjust PCI-e frequency only when encountering weirdness with the gfx when the FSB is cranked way high. My Infinity I adjusted up to 116 while running at 423 on the buss. If not then it would take awhile for the screen to refresh when exiting 3D benchmarks.

Just tinker with it, won't hurt nothing and you may get some benefit...

Here's a link to the new P26 bios...they actually removed the linkboost function>>>P26

You can of course still adjust manually but they have taken it off "auto pilot"

    Bill,
I just got mine last week and I was curious if you'd pay close attention to any electronic "hissing" from any of the "on-board" electronics? I noticed it on my board as soon as I started overclocking back up to the speed I used on my AR revision. On my board it's very loud and very noticable.

Unlike my AR revision I was able to run 32M at a FSB speed of 500Mhz with my Xeon but I used "Linked/Synced" mode to do so. There is one last thing I'd like you to take notice of while your testing if you can? On my AR revision my memory speed was very capable in "Unlinked" mode with Xeon installed. I was very stable at 5-5-5-15 @ 1200Mhz with 2.35v and 2T but on the A1 revision I cannot get passed 1000Mhz no matter what voltage/timings I use on memory? It will usually boot but after only a few minutes it restarts (plus if it doesn't boot into Windows it just hangs with no video at all, computer is on but non monitor output). Thanks for any observations you make and have fun!
