anyway for those interested, here's a snippet of the reply i got frm Super talent
"for our 800MHz modules we now have 3 different qualified RAM vendors. Micron is one of them. There's no guarantee that the modules you buy will have Micron chips. Our only guarantee is that the modules will run at 800MHz at specified latency and voltage"
didnt mention what the other 2 was tho"

There no many others to chose... so might be Elpida, Promos, Aenon or Infineon, probably Elpida and Infineon.

That's a pretty crappy business strategy. These memory kits are CLEARLY marketed as overclocking memory, yet 2 out of the 3 configs won't overclock worth poop. Even though I think I recieved Micron chips, thats the last super talent product I will buy.

Over clocking memory kit is any memory rated @ higher than PC6400C5 and that means that any 6400C4 is already overclocked so no misleading

Just to clear up any misconceptions, the email did include this

"If you absolutely have to have Micron based modules, you could buy any of our 1000MHz modules or kits as they are all built only with Micron"

wouldnt want to be spreading wrong info or get the facts twisted. I shud hv included this earlier.

The volume of kits sampled on XS lately is probably only a small proportion of their overall sales, so its quite possible some of the more recent posts don't accurately portray OC performance from recent batches.

However, what is interesting, is that the wholesale price on these kits has quite recently, dropped dramatically in comparison to other well known comparable Micron based kits.

Would be very interested to know what mix of chips is being used now

I have never seen a bad review on these. I have seen that they might not contain D9 chips however is this actually confirmed?

I have the old school silver T800UX2GC4's and they fookin rock. @ stock timings i can get them to about ddr2-950 with stock volts. Currently they are @ ddr2-1088 5-5-5-15 @ stock volts.

I have 2 different friends that purchased this memory after someone said "they no longer have D9" and they can achive the same results I get. One guy has a DS3 and the other is a 680i.

I picked mine up on Ebay for about $220 and couldnt be happier (thank god for buy it now). My friends paid 270-290ish and they love the ram....even at those prices.

Smile Crucial Ballistix price change at the Egg

I was getting ready to purchase a 2GB set of Crucial Ballistix PC6400 last night and while checking the price on NewEgg, the price dropped $26.50 while I was on the site.

    It's now listed for $273.49!

the Supertalent dropped to $239 w/ no rebates. If you can get D9 its well worth it, if you ask me its worth a try.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820609026

At times it seems to be a hit or miss with this kit since they started using other chip supplier in addition to micron.

Had a not so good experience with them with either ds3 or pb5 dlx, first set, after testing, found out had a defective module that won't even run at rated spec regardless of settings. Had to rma. In comes the replacement set that refuses to run stable at anything over 840 ish Needless to say that left a sour note in dealing with a Super Talent product.

However regardless of that I won't take away from the exceptionally good results that others have obtained with them.

So yeah certainly for that price it's not bad at all to try them out the worst thing that could happen is that you get a dud oc or defective set and have to rma. D9s or not, for $239, if you luckily get a set that runs stably at 1000 5 x x x and what not, that would be a good buy.

I have just put in an order for one of these kits here in oz but it seems they have changed the heatsink colour to blue. Has anyone recieved a set recently with the blue heatsinks? if so can you confirm if they still using D9Gxx?

They have been blue for about 8+ months and are no longer 100% Micron. I think a few posts in this thread talk more about it.
