Seems like ddr3 memory controllers can be backwards compatable with ddr2 - this is something that AMD looks to be doing as well.

Although they may use different physical sockets, so boards will probably support one or the other.

I really hope we start to get DDR2 1333 as well, cause I'd hate to see a 1333 FSB, and still have DDR2 in the 1 ghz range...

I hoped EPP could change that, but I think I ain't gonna happen because of the slow JEDEC.... else we would have seen DDR500 and above...

I really dont care about JEDEC and all that, that stuff means nothing to me.

what I mean, is I hope we see ram capable of 1333 mhz by the time this CPU/board come out.
I dont care about official support, just as long as some ram can do it, thats what I want to see.

2x 16x PCIe 2.0. But will it support Crossfire? SLI? Or maybe Intel will have their own enthusiest GPUs by then, and will release their own dual GFX?

fixed. i know it's a nitpicky thing, but it drives me INSANE when people call 666mhz ram 1333mhz.. cause it's not. then a lot of people will be like yeah, my ram is at 650mhz, when it's really 325mhz. drives me insane!

sorry for singling you out kunaak

jbizzler, it can under one condition: nvidia/ati allows drivers to support it

Yes the Controllers are very very compatible with each other.
HOWEVER the memories are not. you can only use on type at a time
But one thing to remember, unlike earlier prototypes. they ARE NOT pin compatible

Now the question is, what will be the better system? Bearlake+Yorkfield or RD790+Altair. Raw spec-wise, RD790's gonna have Dual CPU, "4 Graphics", so, to the normal passerby, RD790 looks like it's gonna kick ass.

I wouldn't call Q3 2007 "soon to be ready", kinda misleading

Think I'm still gonna wait for C55 to come and kick some ass...

    lol!
I just realised why this pic looked a bit odd.
It's inverted horizontally. No idea how did that happen...

Let me myself for successfully merging 2 pics, labeling it, but managing to invert the whole thing.
You were not supposed to see this.

I love how the rows don't have titles. We can figure them out for the most part, but WTF is Release 3.0 on Bearlake Q?

Friend from the industry tipped that Intel is going to release samples of Bearlake in week 44-46.
    Is that soon?

DDR3 is coming up very quickly. Hopefully there is a significant gain over DDR2, or at least DDR1.

I may very well end up skipping DDR2 completely.

That's what I'm counting on. In all reality, I should be able to skip an entire generation of memory without even taking a performance hit!

Trust me DDR3 has some serious performance improvements over DDR and DDR2, both in terms of latency and bandwidth, as well as a highier capacity and lower power usage which will make it very attractive in the server world

About as Expensive as DDR2 was when it first came out. After a little bit the price will really start to fall. It'll be cheaper than DDR2 in say 2-3 years
