    Exclamation No Longer Req'd-Log In Address(port 16080): http://www.xtremesystems.org:16080/forums

I've had a hell of a time trying to work this one out today.

The new server requires port 16080!!!
    i.e., http://www.xtremesystems.org:16080/forums/usercp.php

If you have a firewall (hard/soft/both) like me and are having trouble logging in, make sure you open up port 16080. I could not log in without it and previously this was not required.

The issue manifests itself as 'You have exceeded your maximum failed login attempts' advices/email messages.

Also, DON'T reset your password as the message is not valid (at least, unless you think you have actually messed up your password 5 times!)

Good luck, get in, and may the XS be with you again.

[edit: can't cant cannot login logon problems-search terms for those out there still troubled and who haven't found this post]

Glad it's helped someone. Pulling hair today. After waiting 2 days for my 'fix' as I call it, this issue was the last thing I needed. (didn't get much work done today )

If you access the forum through the front page, then log in, it works. Not the best solution of course.

That didn't work for me, I had issues there too. Even after clearing IE history etc., if I clicked on the Xtreme Forums link from the xtremesystems.com site, I'd get a 'page can't be found' error.

Hmmm, I just log out and back in a couple of times going through the front page. You have to access the forum through the "Nav" section, and not the "Main Menu".

Obviously something is not working right. But it's the easiest solution I've found so far.

    sierra_bound, yes and no.

I just did a test and disabled port 16080 (as it was earlier today) and the link does not work. I MUST have port 16080 open or the link defaults to http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums...

If I have port 16080 open, the link defaults to http://www.xtremesystems.org:16080/forums/...

So the server (or something) is detecting whether port 16080 is opened or not and defaulting the appropriate link, however, if the port is not open I cannot login nor for that matter could I open the page.

[edit] Further, if I try to log in I get the failed login attempts message and this email:
    Dear GAM,

Your account on XtremeSystems Forums has been locked because someone has tried to log into the account with the wrong password more than 5 times. You will be able to attempt to log in again in another 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 209.58.227.163

Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Use the link below:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/login.php?do=lostpw

    All the best,
    XtremeSystems Forums

This is not my IP address, this is an IP address in XtremeSystems range.

Mac OS X/Apache has a performance cache that moves the web serving from port 80 to port 16080. This is probably what's causing the problem. I believe some people recommend turning this performance cache off.

Probably a good call given that 'Accessibility' is likely more important for most than performance.

Although now that I know, it makes no difference to me, which is probably the same for others. And, it doesn't affect non-members.

I didn't try it on school, but i'm sure i cant read XS when on school.
That's sad, because the main thing i do on school is reading XS.
Or i have to tunnel an SSH session from TCP to ICMP, and then use SSH to tunnel my internet traffic from my laptop to the proxy on my home server.
That would be a ty job to do, so i hope Fugger will change it

I too was having one time as to see why I couldn't log in. The icon next to the XS url should be changed.

I think it is just a way/result of disabling images for the time being. I did read somewhere that images weren't enabled yet, since the server replacement.
