P5WD2-E Premium Rev 103 and Conroe? the final word?

After research all over the web i cannot see any final word on wether this board supports conroe.

to many conflicting reports of bios updates and new Rev's that may support conroe or not.

the total disapointment the new asus boards are becoming are forcing me to look at this tried and tested asus premium as a possible alternative to the p5w.

does any one know for sure if you can use this board with conroe?

Rev 1.03g should support Conroe. It should be in store around July 20.

    It was shown at Computex.

I have to agree with this . It's not a good business decision and clearly doesn't make sense. Although we could be wrong and see them in the near future I will automatically question reliability. The current version is fine however this new version will be just like the P5W DH Deluxe without the bells and whistles. Which can land you with similar problems so I don't see any real benefit. Also, there is the question that rears its ugly overhead .

I got a bad news from ASUS.

Intel 975x mobos are only P5W DH and P5WDG2 WS Pro.

Using the P5WDG2 WS workstation for C2D makes more sense then the P5WD2-E Prem when you already have a P5W DH Deluxe...
I am not happy about this either but knew this might be true

It's true that they are only P5W DH and WS Pro before September.

lol......Are you sure? Please try to use conroe. I always got ASUS ES mobo first, but ASUS never says they have -E 1.03 support conroe.

i am so annoyed with the mobo situation at the min!

god damn anus are letting me down. i want a 445fsb capable mobo. is this to much to ask?

All hopes rest on the Gigabyte DS3! at 104GBP this is a bargain to! i hope the E6600 does as well as the E6400 on the DS3. 500 FSB has just been surpassed! Anus cant even keep up with this budget board half its price!

In a word...yes...you are asking for too much. Instead of buying a E6600 why not up it to a E6700 at least you will not have to OC that high.

And why is 445 FSB an issue with you anyway? I never hear an experienced OC'er complaining about FSB limitations of 445 before Why is this FSB limitation such an issue with you?

-Do you need it for gaming?
-To post that you actually obtained this FSB.

Help me understand why only 445 FSB is needed?>

cus 445FSB is 4GHZ on a E6600, this is my aim. i dont want to pay 160GBP just for 1 extra multi. When i could sell my GFX and buy a GX2 with the money.

for the cost of the Anus board you should be able to hit this FSB no problem if the product was produced well and supported with good bios's which it obviosly hasnt it wouldnt have an issue. tell me how a board 60% of its price hits 500FSB when the Anus wont boot past 422. for premium price i expect premium performance.

Also every overclocker on this forum with a mainboard has been trying to find out the max FSB of it since they have all been released.

"I never hear an experienced OC'er complaining about FSB limitations of 445 before"

they may not of said 445 as a number before but i have heard many complaints about low FSB. there is little reason to buy a conroe thats higher than the E6600 as the X6800 clocks the same on Air. - 3.7ghz - 4.0ghz

the question is which mobo can get the FSB needed.

I didn't saw it personally, but we were talking about that and he confirmed that he has P5WD2-E rev 1.03.

I will send him a link to this topic, and maybe he will say something more.

Dude you are really taking a risk with such a high FSB. Look at it this way...lets say that your MB is capable (a good bin) but that still means you need to luck of with a center waffer, cherry picked retail E6600. Maybe you like gambling but the probability is very high that this won't happen in spades. Maybe you will luck up (I hope you do). But lets look at it from a sensible prospective.
-E6600 will beat the pants of some X2's anyway so what's so demanding that you need to hit 4.0 anyway? Bragging rights?
-Even if you hit 4.0 what's the probability that it will be 24/7 stable?
-Do you plan on spending more money to water cool the CPU? It would be cheaper to buy an inexpensive aftermarket HS and E6700

i think asus just needs to stop making motherboards all together and go into like.... crap farming or something...

sorry lol i just had to lol.

this P5W dh is a real genuine piece of crap... seriously it is.. and for the MSRP to be so high on a board that arrives DOA,,, doesnt boot normally.. cant get a decent bios for,,, had dead pci-e slots out of the box... bad bios chips... bad nb .. the voltage control on the DH seems to be good so far though i literally fell out of my chair when i saw that.

and that god dam stupid power off b.s. when the fsb is at or around 350mhz that is the most annoying thing i have ever heard.

and the fact that they dont have any of the DH's for RMA and wont for atleast another several weeks,, several..... THAT is just insane..

    i get what ya saying.

there are 3 things to consider.

    1) Every CPU produced so far will be off same waffer its to early to bin the good and bad ones. so my E6600 maybe as good or better than the X6800.

    2) What if my E6600 is stable as houses but i cant see if it will go higher because the mobo wont let me! - that will really annoy me.

    3) my E6600 cost me 215GBP the E6700 is 411GBP

i Already have after market Air cooling, and thinking about chilled water cooling. I also have Pc8000 OCZ titanium VX 44412 ram which i bought so i could run a high FSB better.

The hunt for a high fsb mobo has been goin on since the Bad axe was lauched.

there are 100 posts all asking max FSB of different mobo's for the same reason i am.

if you pay 180GBP for a "Delux" mobo, you want it to do better than the 104GBP with FSB.

problem is the DS3 for 104GBP isnt very feature rich.

i want to clock my cpu as high as it will go. not as high as my mobo will go.

I see what you are saying but if the performance is the main factor what are you missing when you get a max, stable OC of 3.0 vs 4.0? Although I haven't seen it with E6600 I have with the E6400 and that's deminishing returns (can't find the link at the moment but it was posted in this forum). At some point you will reach a max OC and yield no better performance then a heavy OC.
Please examine that when you do achieve your desired OC. Performance is still key when OCing.
