ATI X1900gt Unlock Bios Found ???

Someone in techpowerup found a way to unlock the 16 pipelines.

    Original thread

    Update:

DO NOT USE THE BIOS YOU PREVIOUSLY DOWNLOADED FROM THIS FORUM, IT MAY NOT WORK ON YOUR CARD AS THERE ARE TWO REVISIONS TO THE R580 CORE

Long story short, there are basically two revisions of the ATI R580 core. One is referred by the engineers as the R580"XL" and the other one is known as R580"PRO". Apparently, if you swap the BIOS on the cards, IT WILL NOT WORK. I just flashed Migou's R580"XL" version BIOS into my card, which is based on the R580"PRO" core, it fked up, and ATIFlash no longer recognizes the card.

If you still want to pursue the 16pp unlock, please post your dumped BIOS and I will mod it for you. If you want to mod it yourself see the X1800GTO @ X1800XT mod thread. Works upon the same principle.

Before sending me the BIOSes, open the BIOS with Rabit and see if the Description says R580 "XL", if it does, don't bother. Make sure before sending me the BIOSes that the description says R580 "PRO" as shown below:

To sum it up, here are the requirements:

i)Make a backup of your card's bios. The bios description must reflect as "R580 Pro" when opened using RaBIT editor
    ii)Rams must be Samsung 1.4ns
iii)Use ATIflash dos proggie to flash the bios

Checkout the thread for further updates.

Heck, even if it doesn't work, an X1900GT still is better bang/buck than anything else out there.

I decided to just ask w1zzard real quick before I headed off to bed whether or not he thought it was legit. He replied "should work fine", but wasn't sure if it would at all be brand dependent.

Tested it, and failed. Still 12 pipes, and my card acted funny. Flashed back with no dmg

    ---

BTW X1900GT 256MB is still faster than X1800XT 512MB in most cases, when both are OCed.

The X1900GT OCs more than the X1800XT in most cases, which is why I say that...

I'm pushing mine up past 720mhz GPU (still got a lot more voltage headroom to go, only using 1.375v) and 863mhz RAM (1726mhz )

Mine is BBA and it didn't work as well.

The pipeline count was still 12.

There should be a better method for unlocking...

It's better bang for the buck if you don't count your electric bill. ATI uses way more electricity.

Ha, once you OC and vmod, any card will have super-high power consumption. What you said is only true at stock.

Arent the pipes laser cut on the GT, so it`ll take a pencil or similar mod to stand a chance of getting all the goodness from the GT? I reckon ATI would be...unwilling? to repeat the success of the X800GTo seeing as the X1900 is not at the end of its life?

The AIW has the 4 pipes unlocked, but it costs like $300. Your choice.

I already have an AIW, but was considering trading it for a GT cause it clocks better? But the AIW has more pipes and vertex shaders.

Keep the AIW, unless someone finds a way to unlock the newer GTs.

i hear that the older r580 core on the his ones are the most sucessful but only a few have been unlocked but the newer x1900gt's have an r575/r570 core which is slower and clocked at 513 but they have speeded up the memory to 1312 so suppose the slow down of the core compensates for the memory a great card for its money i would take 1 over a 7900gt
