anyone know how much voltage I can throw at this sucker... for 24/7 use? I have H20 so I should be able pump quite a bit...but I want it to be safe.
1.6v or so. No one really knows the answer to this question...its just a matter of opinion for the most part.
I say find the spot where the cpu stops scaling with voltage, and then hover somewhere in there.
For example, My 3800+ needs 1.488v to be stable at 3000mhz, but for 3050, I need something like 1.62v. The extra 50 mhz isn't worth all the extra heat and volts that I have to use.

Still tweaking, but this has been my daily 24/7 clock. Cooling is VapoLS. It will do 3.1GHz without issue, but needs 1.55V. Core1 is much weaker than core0 (almost 200MHz delta).

Can someone tell me the "good" weeks for manchester core?

Well I've been lurking for a while. I just got a LDBHE 0601TPMW 3800x2 and I'm impressed. 2.85 ghz is prime 95 stable for several hours (don't remember how long) but I wonder if its my motherboard that's holding me back. What's the concensus about the MSI K8N Nforce4 SLI platinum boards?
Thanks for your opinion,
Mike
I also got a LDBHE 0601TPMW 3800x2. It did do prime at 3.0 with 1.408v for 3hrs before core 0 gave up. (I only have screen of 2+hrs) Different story with better cooling though, 3.30 for 3d 05, 3.35 for 3d03, and 3.34ghz for 3d06. I must say having a 'BH' chip after having other cpu's with cold bug issues was fabulous.

Is there any software to tell the stepping? (i.e. to tell the 0xxx ???? string without removing the fan and looking at the CPU itself;-)
I just got an X2 3800+ (Manchester), and have a question. On stock cooling on the CPU, along with two 120mm case fans, how much do you think would be a possible OC with reasonable temps? Do you think 2.4ghz on stock cooling is an achievable goal?
My X2 4400 does 2.6 with 1.4v (both BIOS and CPU-z) on A8N32
I get much higher temperatures, since my ambient is 30*C, and am using the stock cooler.
It seems A8N32 won't provide stable current for higher overclocks - but I can tell when I switch the cooler for a good one next week.
Dual prime stable for now, but doing 60+*C![]()

Here are some of my subzero experiences with X2 3800+ Manchesters:
It is hard to keep them under subzero with phase under full load. My MachI@r507 shows -50°C display but processor still goes over zero (+5°C) with both cores on full load near 3GHZ and 1.55V. Seems the heat can't be transported fast enough or whatever, tried it without and with HS (and severval pastes all the same results) - almost no difference
It's quite fun to let them idle and make suicideshots: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=102539
But benching over 3.1GHZ is way easier with a single core processor. Had CDBHE0531TPEW - was a good old 05 model with 2880MHZ stable and Pi1m ~3100MHZ. Don't exactly know if it was coldbugged as my ballistixx only run exactly 250MHZ with it (stable and instant pi errors @251MHZ ^^) Bootet at any HTT.
Just got a LDBHE0604VPMW yesterday but strangly it does almost the same stable as the processor before - 2890MHZ stable with 1.55V and ~2920MHZ with 1.65V. But temps are rising with both cores on load @1.65V. It could do ~3GHZ @1.65V with -15°C but I can't hold this temp with a singlestage
Seems to be coldbugged as while reboots during first overclocks it wouldn't even boot with 1.55V @220HTT. Is the same problem I had with my Opteron...so boot @211HTT and Clockgen in autostart. 2890MHZ for now, will try to go a bit higher after week-end burn-in. But again no real 3GHZI'm a bit sick of searching processors so I will keep it for a while if it makes no trouble. More tests of this processors maybe soon (suicide run of the '06).

BTW, I'm cruous... why do ppl invest in Vapochill or something that costs more than buying a few processors ahead and getting the same results?:-)
don't ask for it, I had enough processors to know my board settings @327HTT stableOriginally Posted by alfaunits
It is the processor and "heat".
Well you can have fun with every processor you buy and do not have to buy so many of the same category...and not everybody can do ~2900MHZ stable with every X2 they get - that's the reasonI don't wanna break the WR at the moment and don'thave the money for more processors at a time, so phase is still the best solution to get high-midfield oc EVERYTIME
