I'd try it before you worry about doing the mod JC
Sierra's board is unmodded I believe.

good, i already tore down EVERYTHING (lol)
edit:
should be a "fun" mount with this dinky lil core
NOT the same hole layout as my ASUS....*^%))*&%*)%

What is the layout of the mounting holes? Anyone got a diagram/schematic?Originally Posted by Joe Camel
BTW, Newegg has the boards back in stock. But it seems this board/configuration is for masochists until the FSB issue is worked out.

no drawing but i can show ya what i did....
marked holes are NEW
used the mounting bracket from my big typhoon as a template...
then transfered the holes to cardboard so i could drill the chilly1 "top" plate
(dont we all MOD in bare feet?)
taking a quick smoke break and cleaning up the the mess from drilling plastic

From my point of view, the way to work out the FSB issue is by getting a better chip which is what a number of people have done.Originally Posted by uclajd
I really don't think there's a magic BIOS or magic board modification that is going to solve the problem. The stepping-8 chips seem to do better than stepping-4.
As long as you have a good CPU, the board is pretty easy to work with. However, some people are having trouble getting Crossfire to work properly.
Having had 4 2500's it think it's a cpu issue not mb. This board is like most(not all) in that there is just not enough Vcore and Vdimm.Originally Posted by uclajd

seems to work but i cant get into BIOS![]()
just a blue line @ bottom and blinking cursor on top left....![]()
installing new OS... that seems to work ...
i know somebody else couldn't get to BIOS..... ummm any hints?

The T-mod will allow you to enter the BIOS when the CPU is frozen. Your only other alternative is to power on before the temperature gets too cold and enter the BIOS then.
what tool do y'all use for BIOS flashing? (floppy)

I just flash in Windows using the EzWinFlash utility. Simple and fast.

Thanks. Ugh, reminds me of the horrors of phasing Dothan. Hard to do that without chipping the core.![]()
The more I learn about this business, the more I want to just get a rev 304 D975XBX and wait for Conroe.
But if you could get this to config work...![]()

cold BIOS bug *GONE* with BIOS 3C (thanks hicookie)
BIOS temp reads 1C (ALWAYS)
cant get windows to boot/load....BSOD's.... still trying
(edit: MY BSOD's are due to a volt-bugged CPU (or mobo) NOT temps or BIOS... on air i could run 1.275 Vcore but now on chilly1 SS i cant run > 1.175 Vcore)

dont forget that ive got a GIMPED (CPU or mobo) that i couldnt run with >1.28V last week on air.... im just trying this under phase for "fun"
its booting/installing @ 1.2V (BIOS)
looks like the cold just made MY volt-bug worse![]()

Sorry to hear that bud, hopefully on the flipside the cold will help the clocks more than enough to compensate.
Kyosen T-core mod will help you run w/out problem, no matter how cold is the evap. The only thing to be carefull is Core temp in bios will depend on the resistance you set the pot. Mine set @ 17Kohm before soldered to mobo shows 11/12C core temp. in bios regardless of evap. temp. and the mobo's ability to shut off power when core temp. hits the limit will be gone![]()
The 4 holes on the mounting are the same as S478..
Same problems I had under phase change,Originally Posted by Joe Camel

Seems I can't flash old bios back. Using 1.03b (merom) but it is worse than 1.03. Now it simply will reboot every time I try flashing either from windows or dos. I will try using awdflash probably and flash bios file directly.
...
ok, can't update bios using awdflash and winflash either
Can someone link me to 1.03c?
...
these are two separate issues (for me)Originally Posted by easypanic
actually, the BIOS temp reading 1C (always) is good news... basically this is a BIOS mod vs the T-core (hard) mod.
MY reason for BSOD's is too high Vcore, but i *think* im the only one with a volt-bugged chip...
and has nothing to do with the phase cooling, it acted similar on air last week

bios 1.03c added a VTT option.
highest=1.19v
then...do we need T-Core mod anymore ?
Isn't at Aopen's site... that's for sure.
