well testing my Opteron 170 i realised chances of dual core opteron doing 2900mhz is alot less than single core opteron or fx-57 doing 3000-3100mhz, so realistically dual core still has some way before catching single core Opteron or FX-57 for average user

in my case dual core definately beat single..........

i beat my Opteron 144@2900MHz with dual core at 2600MHz and SLOWER clocks on GFX card (ATI X800NP)

Opteron 144@2900MHz single core + GFX OC was 439/1164........5,035 points
Opteron 165@2600MHz dual core + GFX OC was 429/1104.........5,065 points

    amazing

as long as they clock OK under phase i guess.........as people are benching their FX57 PCs around 4GHz mark..........but with newer drivers optimised for dual core there's no doubt

have a look at this.......................i took a screenshot of my dual core at 2.6GHz (FX60 speed) against Jaffa's 3.41GHz Opteron and my CPU scores are still better than his ......it will be very interesting to see first FX60 benchmarks for sure

I was comparing my old scores, and found that my old score of 14965, with a 3.3 ghz A64 3700, OCZ VX 4000 at 235 cas 2-2-2-5-1T... and the videocard at 585/1450...

was easily beat by my Dual Core Opteron at 3.03 ghz... 2 gigs of Mshkin PC4000 at 260 cas 3-4-3-8-1T and the videocard only at 513/1370... daily speed.

from what I just saw, I see no reason at all that I can't beat my current best of 15450, with this Opteron 170 cooled alittle better, and switch out to my VX 4000 ram, and get the clock speeds back up to 621/1450...

might actually break 16,000 with this.
    weird.

    one note though.

CPU score without AMD 64 driver = 8400.
CPU score with AMD 64 driver =7800.

definatly avoid the A64 driver, in this case.

nice results with your one..........tell me what you meant by AMD driver....is that a separate download or a part of nvidia chipset driver package.....i assume it's the earlier one

also i can't find for the life of me those memory tweaks you or OPB or ben805 or someone here mentioned....apparently there were a few bios tweaks which are DUAL CORE CPU ONLY tweaks...would be nice to know what they were again....thought i'd ask someone who's likely to know this

the AMD64 CPU driver is on AMD's website.

supposedly it gives huge boosts to PCMark2005 scores, but is useless for everything else.
so far, it hasn't helped me on anything, and in most cases brought my scores down.

the only other tweak I know of for dual core, is to add /usepmtimer to your boot.ini.
but again, that did absolutly nothing for me either...

so I haven't found a successful dual core tweak yet.

dinos 3dmark05 cpu score can fluctuate alot and isn't comparative by a long shot i.e. here's my

    Opteron 146 @3061mhz with 3dmark05 cpu score = 7484

    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1448541

    FX-57 @3120mhz with 3dmark05 cpu score = 8,141

So, Nvidia multithreaded drivers are really taking advantage of both cores.

hmm, interesting dual core is really so much better. Obviously my next buy is definitely dual core. The only problem with opterons is cold bug at rather high temps. Was it the same with X2?
